one question for all experts regarding footwear... this year I bought LA SPORTIVA TRANGO ALP GTX. I bought a size larger than my foot as they suggested in the store.. on longer hikes (about 8 hours) during descents despite proper socks, pain appears in the front part of the sole (pad right behind toes), maybe someone knows what to do, some advice... thanks for the answer

Since the boots are new, with some models feet hurt after several hours of walking. Boots break in after a few hikes and soften, walking becomes normal then. If it doesn't get better after some time, possibly the boot is too high in the heel area and doesn't grip the foot enough. One size larger boots is no problem, as advised in the store, so toes stay protected on steep downhill, and in winter there's room for thick socks.

The leather anatomical insole with arch support helped me a lot. @pater B and @luky68 have ZS with link, so no advertising here. regards Dare

Maybe it's necessary to change the sock combination, For boots, I'd suggest a longer period for the foot to adapt, it will get better from hike to hike. Regards.

Recently got Mammut Mercury Advanced High II GTX and fully satisfied with them. Surprised me mainly with soft sole, stability and of course price (bought them discounted for only 125€).

Skrba, such worn-out Speedcross probably hard to find even at the dump.

Hey! Planning to buy mountaineering boots to use all year for high mountains. Recently tried Teton model at Alpina, very comfortable. Interested in your experience with them and if suitable for summer too

Well, I'm not quite sure such boots exist. Teton is "light" and certainly usable in summer too, but not overly comfortable. Plus I have quite poor feel with them on more delicate crumbly terrain where you gotta watch your step - hard with such boots. If you're gonna buy just one pair for all year I'd almost recommend some Nepals, not real winter boots nor for autos but fine for average mountaineer even in winter. If you need stronger you'll have to get special winter ones.

Judging by how the question was asked, I dare conclude that the specific mountaineer doesn't plan to go to the mountains as often in winter as in summer. If so and he really wants one pair, I recommend a lighter model, in winter just strap on classic crampons. As long as one is walking, there is no real cold in our mountains anyway.

Hey! Thanks to all for opinions and answers. After trying again I decided for Alpina Lhotse which I bought. They seem maybe a bit less robust and comfier. Regarding summer, I emphasize that I'll use them only for high mountains. Now nice weather, to the mountains to see if my decision is right

I plan to buy new hiking boots. I'm deciding between Alpina Lhotse and Alpina Anapurna, and I'm interested if anyone has experiences with these models. And if they're suitable for summer too.
