Hiking boots

Fact is, nobody can advise you 100% on boots, because we all have different feet, body structure. Only way is try, try and try again. Custom product doesn't guarantee comfort and functionality. You can get burned multiple times on purchase or never. I did a few times. Now for some years I know what I need and stick to it, luckily for my feet. Good luck!

I got burned this year too. One month I was looking for a model for my (wide) foot. The seller in Suvel, where I tried Meindl models, told me I have flipper-shaped feet. To top it off, on longer hikes they swell so much that they're even more cramped in the boot. In the end I decided for Planika Jalovec. In the store, where I had them on for almost two hours, they were very comfortable, at home everything was fine too. But when I went on the first hike to Hude police with them, my world collapsed. They blistered me so much I barely made it to the car.
I sold the Jalovec to a friend who they serve great, but I was back to square one. I tried all Meindl models but couldn't decide on any. Then I returned to the brand that suited me best so far - Lowa. The Trekker model caught my eye. But where to buy it? I found out that Promontana from Kranj has the biggest selection of Lowa boots, so I contacted them and learned they don't have that model in stock but can order it. And not just that! I learned they make it in two versions: medium and wide (wider). Of course I excitedly ordered the wider version, which they'll get only in December. I've already come to terms with waiting. For a good, comfortable boot, no wait is too long.

I described all this to help some other "wretch" who has the same foot problems as me.

For me boot is not such a problem, I have wide foot too. In the boot there must be proper socks. A few sizes smaller than foot, or compression ones, those won't bunch up and blister even after 10 hour walk. Then you have to watch how you lace the boots. Foot mustn't move in the boot, if it does blisters on heel or elsewhere are common. If boots are too narrow for me I lace looser over instep, tighter around ankle. Last year I bought boots and went to Mont Blanc, then bought Salomon sneakers and hiked Kozjak and Pohorje with them. Also did Koroški izziv with new footwear. Not all in boots, legs must be prepared too for long hikes. Also this year we did daily hikes in Finland 40 km, and in Tornio I bought new Salomon and walked with them without problem the remaining days. But I was careful with laces hardness. Regards J

Bravo, Janezs! Can only congratulate you for all the kilometers hiked this year. Must say, my wife and I hiked a lot this year too. Luckily I still have Lowa Vantage LL with leather inner boot. They are (for me) super comfortable but relatively light trekking boots, so for harder hikes I'm looking for somewhat heavier ones.
You surely have narrower foot than me, since Salomon boots didn't suit me at all.
Can you advise please which socks to get (price doesn't matter). With wife we mostly wear Salomon socks bought at Hervis. Don't know the model name, can only say they come in black or gray (only these two colors).

The brand is not so important, what's important is that they are compression socks and fitted to your foot. They can be short (for summer), medium, or up to the knees... If there's a good seller and you know what you want, then that's it.nasmeh
regards

For long hikes, I also turn socks inside out and then put the right one on the left foot and vice versa, because the outside of the socks is smoother than the inside.

Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to socks, although I change them regularly and quite often on hikes. I'll check in Iglu and Kibuba what they offer.

No, for me Janezs said nothing new about socks. And yet it's not so easy by chance to get shoes for my sole either. From office shoes, nice dress shoes, boots, running shoes, hiking shoes. I always struggle when they change the model, and if possible I quickly take the old one. But sooner or later I have to choose new ones again, because they change models too often and I struggle every time. And there are some unfortunates like us who apparently don't have the classic foot shape, among runners, hikers and hunters. mežikanje With socks it's like this: I buy the proper size, never too small, because then they tear at the toes sooner. They never bunch up on me, and I also use powder. Low Merrell, wide Moab model and 0.5-1 size larger than summer sneakers for walks, after 7 hours without blisters, pressure. Haven't walked more than that at once yet. High hiking boots? Even bigger problem with choice, because of some defect/ankle shape and it seems I won't be climbing high mountains (no problem, plenty of nice hikes in hills and other mountains (Raduha, Peca etc.)). It annoys me more that I still don't have suitable footwear for winter dog walks through mud and snow, but there's hope for rubber winter boots. The shoe sole still shouldn't be narrower than our sole, better a few mm wider and longer.

Does anyone know the website of the manufacturer of these shoes? They had them or still have them (only large sizes) in Tuš, but I'm looking for a smaller size.

I tried googling a bit, but didn't find anything. I think the best is to ask at Tuš which brand it is.

Is there any other owner of La Sportiva Trango Guide Evo GTX boots here?
I bought them about 2 months ago and I'm generally extremely satisfied with them. Only issue is the protective rubber around the boot, as it's already starting to tear off at the toe flex point. Has anyone had a similar problem? I'll take them back to the store for warranty, but curious if they've repaired this shoe model for anyone... And general experiences.

Hello,
I myself have the women's Trango Tower GTX model. The protection on the back of the boot at the heel also started tearing for me. I took them back and got new ones. Now I inspect them fearfully after every trip and hope the defect doesn't repeat.

But when you come the second time with a defect on the boots after one trip, they rather refund the money so they don't have to deal with you anymore.nasmeh
My experience with some other well-known shoe brand!

I almost already ordered two pairs, but better ask first: Salomon boots from e.g. 97 to 22 EUR - is this a real site or a site for taking money from naive people?
