On the penultimate day of the warmest October since they've been monitoring the weather more intensively here, despite the short day, I headed out for a slightly longer mountain stroll. The backpack was light, since besides a sandwich, a bottle of water, and a few short shirts, I didn't carry much.
At the last parking lot in Krma there was space for one more car, the headlamp lit the path under my feet for just under a quarter hour, just like a few days ago on Kočna. Interestingly, on that trip I only met girls, here up to Malo polje I saw only guys. There I turn left and after a good half hour of steepness reach Bohinjska vratca. Right below the summit there's a nasty landslide, but from there it's nicer , since the real steep part starts again only after a good hour. Before Vodnik I change clothes and take the upper path toward Velska dolina, which in autumn is one of my favorites. At its end I leave the path when it turns right toward Dolič and reach it again via nice rocks right below Mišeljski konec. On the scree below it, not far from the trail, I noticed a big collapse, right above it another one's forming. Later I regretted not snapping a pic of the interesting action. From here to the Hribarice pass (2358) it's just a few minutes. The real treat is the last 200m of elevation, only bothered by long pants, which I swap for shorts right at the top. I set up camp on the western summit and enjoy total calm, great views, and a good sandwich.
I descend the north side of the mountain toward the hut at Dolič, upper part has icy snow patches in spots, but cables help right there, so with extra caution descent not much hindered. Before the hut stop just minutes, much longer enjoy point 2258 right above the trail. Since no time likely for nearby Šmarjetna glava, dropped the idea. On descent through Velska dolina remembered this July, well, luckily valley floor already shaded and nicer walking. At Vodnik quench thirst, refill water, grab dry clothes and head to Bohinjska vratca, where cyclists rest right before drop to Krma. Sun still high, so without backpack toward Vernar and short lie on a sunny grassy shoulder. Still a km descent ahead, toughest part of today's tour for me.
