Choose a hike that you know you're up to and that you know at least a bit from the guide. Leave the crampons nicely at home and walk paths not interrupted by snowfields. The self-belay kit won't help you this time either, since snow lies on almost all secured climbing paths somewhere. Without an ice axe you expose yourself to danger on the slopes of K.S. Alps.

Kokra Saddle was a high enough goal today to rise above the sea of gray fog in the valley. Ascent from Suhadolnik via Taška, descent on the old path. At the saddle sunny, quite cold and slightly windy. Kids were most excited about Tara's cuddly golden retriever . Hut open another week, until Oct 10.

TODAY WAS AT THE SADDLE WHERE WE PREPARED THE HUT FOR WINTER SEASON WHICH CLOSES TODAY 10.10.2010. TOMORROW THE CARETAKER VIDA LEAVES THE HUT AROUND 8 AM WITH JOŽE AND FRANCIJ. SHE SAYS SHE'LL RETURN NEXT YEAR.

How is it from Kam. Bistrica to Kokrsko this time? Avalanches, icy? Does sun shine up there these days?

Depends on the amount of fresh snow. If less than approx. 30 cm, probably no major avalanche dangers.

Today I went towards the saddle (hoping for more or less good conditions for Grintovec). Little new snow below but accumulates with height. When it reached over knees it was very annoying to break trail plus bad feeling on scree might trigger avalanche so turned back. Maybe possible but with avalanches not good to be too bold. Nice trip anyway track now to about 150m below saddle. Believe ski descent from saddle to forest would be great.
On way back met 4 Czechs starting at 11 at lower cable station. Explained not safe due lots new snow and strenuous (walked slow) one tried convince have crampons anyway. Felt they didn't know where to go (said "maybe to the top"). Well hopefully all fine with them.

Today we walked in your footsteps. On the path we met only 6 chamois. We turned back at the spot where you did, because it wasn't pleasant due to avalanche risk. In addition, such a dense fog suddenly descended that we couldn't see even half a meter ahead.

On Wednesday 23.2. we headed from Kamniška Bistrica towards Kokrsko sedlo. In case of good conditions we also planned Grintovec. At the start we had a track which ended mid scree. To there nice fast pace but when making our own to saddle top much slower sinking thin crust. We trampled to Cojzova hut cold windy so Grintovec summit waits later day.
