On Saturday winter fairy tale on Komna, there were ten of us, eight female hikers and two males. Weather gorgeous, sunny without a cloud, temperature perfect for walking. First part of path completely dry, then suddenly icy, crampons necessary. Towards hut some light snow, on some parts already grass peeking. After short break, we headed towards hut on Bogatin and turned right towards Lanževec, which wasn't our goal this time. We walked to the frost hollow where in 2009 the lowest temperature in Slovenia was measured, -49 degrees. On return we refreshed in the hut, struklji excellent, chatted with host Herman. Great day thanks to our mountaineering flower, who always has great ideas.

Yesterday 16.2. quite late to Komna. Path without issues. To 46 bend dry, just lots of leaves on path covering rocks and small boulders, so caution needed. Then first ice, last fifteen minutes slushy snow. Microcrampons were the right choice and walking on ice with them was a pleasure. Weather great, just last half hour before hut a bit windy. On Komna struklji still excellent, staff friendly.

You're right. It can be different already the next day, especially in winter time. Mountains will of course stay in the same place some more years when we're gone.

Thanks @skalaš. The little tour is nothing special, no big elevation difference either, but Komna really always enchants me.
Milan, the little roses unfortunately all under snow, the mentioned ones are already both mature ladies and I didn't dare pinch them without permission. What do you want, shy creature after all .

Snow amount in wider Komna area is substantial, up to 3m there. Without snowshoes or skis very likely not doable (unless conditions changed much in last 2 days). On that steep section around 35-40 bend a bit more to watch. Some small slid already before but nothing serious there. But watch higher up at steep slopes. Say the path to Bogatinsko sedlo we rated too risky.

Trobec, looks crazy Komna hasn't seen so much snow for ages. Don't remember if 2008 or 2009 when dad and I vacationed on Komna, but there was more than 4 meters of snow. To get to our hut we had to dig a trench to the shelter first, then doors frozen, the two of us without tools. But we fixed it all in the end and that was the best vacation ever

Hi,
anyone been to Komna last few days. What are conditions? Avalanche risk anywhere? Weekend plan to go (with snowshoes ) to Koča pod Bogatinom.

Tons of snow on Komna. Trail well trodden all way to Koča pod Bogatinom and further thru Turška vratca to Mala Lanževice. Snow mostly dry except some sunny south slopes basking in sun all day, crunching under boots

On Wed, 3.3., to Komna from Savica. The path was icy only at the start in the lower forest, but can avoid on dry parts, no issue. Higher, snow quite messed up. Plateau dotted with interesting apricot snow patches from recent Saharan dust.
