Komna

Well, on Saturday 27.02 there was great weather on Komna, which quite a few hikers and ski tourers used for the trip. The path to the top was nicely trodden, 20 cm left or right of the path one sank deeply due to lots of snow. How much snow there is up there can probably be seen from the pictures.

Has anyone been to Komna recently? I'm wondering if the path is trodden. I'd go tomorrow with my son, but is there any avalanche danger there?

We were up last weekend. The path from Koča na Savici to Dom na Komni is well trodden and no crampons were needed. Now there is probably some new snow, but I doubt crampons are still needed. The path is almost entirely through the forest and protected so there is no avalanche danger, simply nowhere for an avalanche to slide down onto the path going up. Well, once up there it's a different story, watch where you go. For example, to Bogatinsko sedlo it's possible, to some nearby peak could be fun, i.e. risky. I hope I helped you. Anyway, to Dom na Komni you can go safely, lots of people go up on weekends anyway. I wish you a nice trip.

The path is very well trodden without avalanche danger, just slippery at times but nothing serious, with poles no problem. Today nice sunny weather and accordingly large crowd of walkers and ski tourers, so no worries tomorrow on the path.nasmeh

Yesterday's visit to Komna was very nice, quite a few touring skiers. From Pl. na Kraju the guides pulled a safe track across Lepa Komna and on to Lanževica. Skiing was also done on Srednji vrh. Bogatina and the rest of the Bohinj ridge they haven't tackled yet, because of avalanches. Above 1600m they had packed powder that still allowed good skiing. Lower at the hut the snow was getting heavier, southern. Completely sun-baked it wasn't yet here either, for making good turns. Besides what Kris said, attaching a few pics.

Nice greetings, today I was on Komna. In the morning hours the path in the lower part was smooth and frozen so it's good to put on crampons for safer steps. Higher up where the sun already shines on the path it's normally passable. Wind was blowing quite strong at the Komna hut, so couldn't sit outside. After a short rest in the hut I head to the hut below Bogatin. Not many visitors today.

Does anyone have fresh info on conditions towards Komna and if the road is drivable to Savica.

No snow at Savica. On Komna probably a good meter of snow. Path to the hut is usually well trodden. So watch your step. Sections in the forest below the hut might be icy, so caution advised.

To wrap up a successful hiking season, I went to Komna today to finally get some exercise again (tons of work and a sports injury haven't allowed many mountains lately). The path is trodden, snow is frozen, a few centimetres of fresh snow (at the hut around 10 cm). On the return, especially in the lower part, there is less snow, but the stones sticking out are quite icy. From Komarče a long waterfall falls (probably the highest in Slovenia) and is visible for a good part of the path, every now and then a bang is heard when some rock flies down. Otherwise, today despite not the best weather there were quite a few people, pancakes excellent.

Today I was on Komna (and further from it). To the hut the path is easily passable, further on snowshoes recommended, because snow is very wet and mostly doesn't hold human weight. Possible to sink in up to your butt. jezik

From Koča pri Savici along the Slovenian forest Stelviowinking, 48 "hairpins" haha and at 38 snow starts on the path, but it is no obstacle. First continued towards Koča na Bogatinu and then lunch with a view at Dom na Komni. The day was sunny, warm, windy... fairy-talesmile

On the way to Komna on 31.12. our Siberian Husky puppy got lost, 11 months old, gray color, chipped, blue eyes and blue collar. Very friendly, name Nanook. Notice also at the hut on Komna. If anyone saw her then or will, please let us know tel 051-332 732 Ariana, or 040-894 163 Aleš.

Today Bohinj mountains didn't see the sun either. From Savica waterfall to Komna path o.k., further to Bogatinsko sedlo where we made it, some new dry snow on hard frozen ground. Due to fog and wind we turned back at saddle to valley. On way near Bogatinska hut found lower vignette piece (code we apparently need) and left it at Komna hut if someone misses it.

From the photos it looks like you were at Bogatinsko sedlo in the afternoon, because we with buddy in the morning and we think turned about 50m below summit due to thick fog (visibility 5m). Did you see tracks by chance because we really wonder how far below summit we quit?angry
