I was also with a group yesterday on Komna. In the morning the path was still quite tolerable, in the evening when we returned, it was all "slush" - water for export ....

Was anyone on Komna via Komarča, what's the path like?

Is there snow on the path from Savica to Komna? Could one go up with skis? LP

No dj12, only a bit above the tree line onwards, could one continue on skis to Komna. And nice greetings

Hello! since we come from the other end of Slovenia we turned to this forum. On May 3rd we want to do the tour Lepena-Krn Lake-Vratca (1803 m)-Hut under Bogatin-Komna, and the next day to Black Lake. Has anyone hiked this tour these days? Is any additional equipment needed? We're still worried about the snow cover and snow on the trail... We want to sleep at Komna but have a two-day tour... maybe some not too snowy suggestion? LP from Dolenjska!

Until almost May 3rd they'll still be happily skiing on Vogel. Your tour route over Bogatinsko sedlo 1803m is surely still under thick snow, which will melt during the day in southern weather. If the path is trodden it'll be easier for you, otherwise snowshoes won't hurt, especially if you're just Sunday hikers.

Thanks, this tour will now be postponed to a later time!

On May 3rd there will be just a trace of snow left at 1500m, given how fast it's disappearing at Kredarica; over Bogatinsko sedlo I also think it won't be hard to get through.

Does anyone know the current conditions on the path to the hut at Komna? On Saturday I'd go up from the hut at Savica, continue to Black Lake and finish with descent over Komarča. Can we expect large amounts of snow?

No large amounts for sure. Two weeks ago there was just a little snow on your path only near the hut at Komna, nowhere else (Komarča was completely dry). Now not much snow has fallen, and by Saturday it's almost certainly gone.

Path from the hut at Komna to the Black Lake is dry, Komarča also passable without problems. I recommend

What's the path like on those serpentines towards Komna? Is the ground similar to the one to Vogar from Stara Fužina? I mean, is it a regular forest gravel path, or like the serpentine part on Vogar-full of larger stones and holes? Thanks and LP

No, there are way more larger stones on Vogar, to Komna the path is well graded and faster pace possible, because no need to be so careful with ankles as on those stones on Vogar. Otherwise - forest below, rocks and small stones above, nothing demanding. If we run down from Komna, that's also data for you.

Thanks, Flora1, we went to check it out, though on the way back to the valley (up via Komarča, back via Komna). It's really as you described. Somehow I don't agree with opinions that the path isn't difficult, mentally we found going up Komarča easier than the path back via the serpentines...the path drags on groooozly, no views at all, god forbid you start counting the switchbacks, because it takes away all your morale...if we had gone up this path, we would probably have turned around and gone back. You have to mentally prepare a bit so the switchbacks don't break you. And it's quite steep in my opinion. Then for 3/4 of the path you're accompanied by the thumping of the helicopter in Komarča (your heart squeezes, wondering if it's exercises or they're rescuing some poor guy again), you're chasing the valley before sunset, no more drop of drink, and the impression is spoiled by my own stupidity.

Kiwi why do you even go uphill if you see so many problems. View isn't just a nice sunny day, sitting somewhere on the edge and looking into the distance. Walk around with open eyes and a sense for nature, and you'll have a nice view even in the forest.

We went to the valley, not uphill. Written from my point of view, I forget that everyone likes something different, some peak rocks, views, horizons, others quiet forests, lush vegetation...I don't need to apologize for what I like, right? We're different...anyway it's added that it's mainly my stupidity-dehydration and rushing. Don't attack me for nothing, it's just the impression of MY path.

@Kiwi: It's not that bad, even uphill. You have to get used to Komna. The first time it dragged for me too, now that I've walked it who knows how many times, it doesn't drag anymore. You shouldn't count the serpentines at all, because they can really kill you morally, but you have to see a challenge in each serpentine. If there's nothing to see in the forest, read at home e.g. about the path to Komna during the wars and then you can debate about it on the way up/down. I think about this and that while walking, the times are my challenge and Komna is already here. Your tiredness also showed the path in a "bad" light. Good luck.

One more thing: Go to Komna in winter, in the snow. It's very nice.

It's totally fine that you have your opinion I have mine too. That's why I wrote what I did, if you call that attacking it's ok too. Posts are often commented on and there's nothing wrong with that. It would be good if you took something positive from that path too, not just bad mood.
