Košutica is the right choice to avoid the afternoon heat. Plus, the circular path to Hanževo sedlo and along the ridge to the forepeak and summit then descent to Planina Korošica offers a lot, from views to various alpine flowers. More at:

I used some worse weather for something shorter. Started before the tunnel, past the hut at old Ljubelj, a bit down to the other side, then along the Lojze trail back to ours and along the ridge to the summit. Weather so-so, it could have been nicer or worse. At the summit hop to the neighboring peak and back, then down towards Korošica. Didn't visit the planina, turned earlier to the border/hunting path and along it and at the end a bit on asphalt back to the car. Paths are fine, flat and pleasant smile

Along the hunting path to the meadow and then up among the spruces to the ridge. First to Lokovnikov Grintovec, beautiful larches, thought to go even lower to the other summit but changed my mind. To Košutica from the north side. Lower a sea of fog. The descent path is slippery, seems to have quite a lot of visitors.

After a long time I set off again to Košutica along the hunting path. From the parking lot through the forest the path is almost entirely bare, from the pasture fence onwards the snow cover suddenly appears and thickens quickly. When we reach the border fence there's already quite a lot of snow. In the morning the snow was hard despite fairly high temperatures, excellent for walking. The path as part of the marked western route has some bare patches here and there but winter gear is of course mandatory.
Before the summit I avoided the left traverse and nasty gully and approached the summit ridge via the southern slope where there were already footprints of some predecessors. On the top I caught some nice views before the deterioration. On descent despite early hour on sunny spots it was already quite mushy.

Last time on Košutica a year ago. This time in shade from parking to the top of Hajnževo sedlo, from where I climbed to the ridge and continued to both summits of Košutica. Path full of alpine flowers, some mud before the mountain pasture otherwise dry and nicely hikeable. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.si/Objavljalci/ko%c5%a1utica-5

Whoever looked at the photos and read the report figured out they were taken 25.6. and that's when I strolled to Košutica.

On Sunday first time on this beautiful mountain. From Vrančka we started at 3:15 and up the steep gravelly road to the pasture. On the pasture the wind catches us and it only gains strength to the top. Up the eastern side, down the western side. All bp! On the way back on the pasture we meet Elimir who shows us the border path so then in the shade and on the nice path we descend together. It was nice.

Last bend below Ljubelj, that short road section is not in best condition. Along hunting trail zigzag, when higher view opens. Then soon right straight trail appears. Walked it, it's quite demanding and dangerous for slipping in places. On clearing lost track, a bit along forest lane, then steeply up the slope, reached ridge 5 min before pasture. To H.sedlo and do loop over Košutica.

14.7.2024 nice tour to Košutica. Start a bit above concentration camp. After about an hour walking on forest track we reach marked path going to planina Korošica and further to summit.
Descent past Ljubelj hut.

Vranček-Korošica-Hajnževo sedlo-Grunt-Hut at old Ljubelj - Vranček

Wonderful day, super tour. To Korošica monotonous walk on track, then nice views and quick to saddle. Last 100 height meters exposed, but not critical. Depends on fear of heights nasmeh

Descent over Grunt and Ljubelj. Path well marked, only at one fork (around 1550 m asl) path marked uphill, which is correct. Unmarked goes down, don't know where. Ladder in super condition and not problematic.

At both huts they told me of path connecting Vranček and Ljubelj border post, but saw nothing but road. If someone knows more... nasmeh

Concentration camp - Košutica (hunter's path)-planina Korošica-Hajnževo sedlo-Košutica-planina Korošica.
Fog up to some 1400m, then sun and pleasant temperatures. Ridge path quite exposed and some cables on the path. Views wonderful. Hut at Korošica was open and very friendly keeper.

Today we trampled to the summit, then down the hunter's path. Sun between multiple cloud layers. I thought the ridge would be windblown and hard, but that applies only to a few sections. Drifts up to knees sometimes, with holes even deeper. New snow was still quite powdery, previous base eased progress. Still too little for skiing.

Right time at the right place, we noted with my son when we climbed to Hanže saddle and admired the palette of spring and Clusius primroses. We had more luck on Košutica slope above Hanže saddle where lots of beautiful gentians bloom. I've never seen so much blooming auricula.
Whoever can, use these days and won't regret climbing over Hanže saddle to Košutica, admiring flowering nature beauty.
