After morning dithering left-right, left-right (Dolga Njiva-Ljubelj)... we spontaneously turned towards Ljubelj. At 7 there were only two cars at the parking lot. At the larger one there were a bit more. Soon the supplier or someone who will open the hut at "old Ljubelj" overtook us with a Clio.
At the monument we descended to the Austrian side and after a few minutes took the marked path towards Košutica. The path is already quite trodden, but when crossing Grunt the windpacked snow occasionally breaks through even over the knees. Although we had all winter gear with us, we didn't use it. The descent down the short gully soon below the summit is somewhat annoying, but since it was the only place where we could put on crampons, we took the shorter rocky and grassy ridge to the left.
Compared to Zelenica, old Ljubelj (Košutica)... there was no great demand in these parts. We met only two hikers..
In the hut at the old pass though crowd, crowd, crowd.. We "refreshed" (hydrated) only at the parking lot by the car.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 29 January) along the hunting path from the last bend before the tunnel first to the pasture below the Grunt ridge, then along the path towards the Korošica pasture and just before Korošica to the ridge and along it (path marked 651) to the summit. From the summit back along the ridge and over Grunt and further along the path to Ljubelj pass and along the old road to the tunnel and then a few hundred meters along the main road to the car.
They have stored wood at the parking lot, so I parked as far to the side as possible. The hunting path is very well traceable, except in the area of cart tracks below the viewpoint, where everything is churned up and I had to work to follow it. Under Grunt there is about 10 to 15 cm of new snow, higher up the same. Under the new snow, the old track could be felt. On the bushy part of the path on the Košutica slope it was occasionally slippery, so I put on crampons about 150m below the summit. It wasn't great either, under 10 cm of new snow there were rocks, sometimes ice. Annoying, the ice axe helped only in some places! At the summit there is a logbook box (no cross), but crows are there. I looked around a bit and figured the logbook box probably isn't on the summit at all, but on some pre-summit, as about 20 meters further there was another one in the bushes, a meter higher point. I descended to the exposed notch between them and... gave up! To the summit it was only about 5 vertical meters, over half almost vertical snow-covered and icy step with a loose cable that leaned right and I couldn't use it. Just couldn't go, even though I tried without gloves for better grip.
A bit frustrated I returned the first 150 meters very carefully back along the path. Rocks and occasional ice under the fresh snow were even more annoying on descent despite crampons (or because of them) than on ascent. On the flat before Grunt I took off crampons, hardly any snow, but slippery in places. From Grunt on, safety gear on some spots luckily, one place even a ladder in Dolomite via ferrata style  .
Arrived at Ljubelj pass just before dark, just caught the last view of Košutica and Veliki vrh. Then valley, then peaks covered in darkness. Cars on main road from tunnel, those few hundred meters to parking with light on max power and width.
Unlike last month's conditions, especially upper part (above 1700m) seems very demanding and dangerous!

Today from the roadman's hut towards Korošica pasture, the road is quite icy. Most snow between the pasture and Hajnževo sedlo. Further to Košutica partly bare, mostly very little snow, except last jump into the notch. Obviously a lot melted in a couple days. Nice sunny day with cold wind on top.

Today 11.5. to Košutica via hunting path. Snow on upper meadows, some annoying avalanche debris crossings already towards hut and in upper path section to upper junction. Snow on ridge with some hollow spots to upper third. Our and their for me too soft "tongue" I bypassed on left bushes. Due to wind no loop, but towards Hajnže looks bare. For loop to Ljubelj hut no issues visible, but in last descent to neighbors in still quite snowy forest you lose it quickly. Bring all necessary docs and winter gear! The more I looked at pic of last "our" snow patch under summit the more convinced it dropped a few cm in less than half hour...

Today via Ljubelj, Rjava peč and Grunt to summit. Path mostly bare, what snow there is can be avoided. To Hajnževo sedlo fully bare. Continued to V. vrh, descended to roadman's hut.

Saturday quick trip from foggy Ljubljana to Košutica. Six of us, via hunting path to Grunt pasture and ascent to Košutica summit. Day exceptionally nice, blue sky, fog in valley, views superb. Far to Triglav, saw hut on Stol, even to Snežnik... Summit stop, snack, met acquaintances. Descent to Ljubelj hut, nice atmosphere, good food, friendly service. Path to hut shady, muddy, slippery in last part, otherwise fully bare. Wonderful day, total 14 km and 1100m ascent.

On Saturday, 15 January along the hunting path to Košutica and back via Planina Korošica.
The forest road branching off at the last bend before the tunnel was not plowed. So I tried 600 meters further by the tunnel. Packed full of cars, hopeless. Turned around and on the emergency cleared roadside parking by the campsite somehow found a spot.
The path was snowy from the start, but due to tracks of a few predecessors nicely followable and unproblematic. At the junction to the border saddle between Košutica and Grunt, the track turned to Korošica. To my carefully hidden satisfaction a random companion with doggy overtook me lower down and took the lead there. Blazed the track for us to the state border. And we said some smart stuff too. Thanks!!
From there alone following occasional tracks of two predecessors with crampons. Since I saw they took them off only on return, I put mine on too. Maybe possible without, but less safe. On western ridge slopes everything alternated: southern unstable snow, slab collapses to points where crampon teeth crunched into hard base. Actually usual winter conditions. Only annoying section was area some 100m below summit where path comes from north side to ridge. There, probably due to thaw, somewhat unusual holes for the season between rock and snow formed. Ridge not demanding, but falling into hole can cause balance loss, north side quite steep...
Summit views weather appropriate. Unique! Especially Košuta chain stood out, which from our (south) side we know mainly in seemingly docile grassy form, north view shows something completely different.
Returned via Planina Korošica. Nothing special, trampled. Just one tree whose core was worked by hungry woodpecker (or some other beast ) caught my eye. And of course, already night, glow of almost full moon and view to Zelenica where on probably already well-skied slopes of former ski area lights of late visitors were descending.

Great!
Just recently looked at it from old Ljubelj and thought probably on summit part of path snow hard as concrete. How's the path to Ljubelj? Are the landslides passable without big issues?

Today to Košutica. Up hunting path to Planina Korošica and summit. Return towards hut at Ljubelj then to Ljubelj. Path without any special features.
