Today again an afternoon tour to Košutica. Up via border or hunter's path, to Hanjževo sedlo to the top and back to planina Korošica-to the valley then along the mountain road. Really then you have to walk a bit to the car.

Yesterday to Košutica via border path from Ljubelj. Path to planina Grant quite muddy and slippery, at the place where the end of the installed wire rope is, quite a bit of adrenaline, as you're short of a good foothold or grip. Otherwise later wonderful views, on the pasture I missed only the grazing of the horses, but admired the masterfully built wooden fence which adorns the photos towards Košutica. No crowds at the top, but after 11 o'clock fogs crept in and enveloped all nearby peaks. Back on the nicely laid out hunter's path, which at this time is already covered with fallen leaves. Košutica is always wonderful!

23.11.2014: At the altitude of planina Korošica there is snow. On the top there is over 30cm. The north side is snowy, so caution in the north gully right below the top. Safer to find a "bypass" on the southern, ice-free side. LP; M

Today from Vrančka and via Hajnževo sedlo along eastern path to the top. Descent on western side to Koča na Ljubelju and along old road to the car. Eastern path no problems, on descent on western path crampons helped, which I also used on descent from Rjava peč...there under the shelter. Lp

Tinky, it seemed to me you were the one, but I wasn't sure. Some year ago we met in winter at Kamniško sedlo. lp

On the Gore in ljudje websites it says the path to Košutica from old Ljubelj pass through Austria is closed. Does anyone know why? LP Miran

On the path from old Ljubelj towards Košutica, on a section a bit above the ladder where path turns slightly left there was a small landslide. There caution is needed so you don't slip, fall over the landslide to Austrian side. Altogether maybe just a few meters and at that harder spot no aids - protections. Path was closed already in September when I was poking around there. Despite closure quite a few hikers. Good luck

There have been problems there for a long time; they were already there when I went to Košutica about three years ago and the Austrians still haven't fixed them, at least not in July last year. That wooden little bridge above both ladders is already so shaky and rotten that you really need to watch out. I would also warn about another part much lower down, the part that goes right above a bigger drop-off, which is also visible from the road if driving from our side towards the tunnel. The path there is exposed too, and in wet conditions extra caution is needed, let alone a descent in the dark.

From this side I went up years ago, last year down, but this path never again. Always wet, slippery, where path was built all collapsed, one word f...ed up. Much nicer from Vranček to planina Korošica then east over Hanjževo sedlo, or east past planina.

True, tinky, wet and slippery yes, but you know it's the north side and nothing else to expect. Planina Korošica itself and its surroundings are very dear to my heart. I return there several times a year. In spring there's really a varied selection of flowers, in summer sour milk at the planina is enjoyable, in autumn I go over Baba to the old Ljubelj to see Hrastov memorial-motor race of vintage motorcycles, in winter sometimes so much snow that you can easily climb onto the roof of the hut on the planina. Austrians a few years ago replaced the wooden ladder with a metal one, which will surely serve its purpose for a long time. Now it's necessary to ensure safety on that critical part of the ridge. The ridge there gets narrower every year as erosion carries the material into the valley.
