Today at 9:30 on Kriška gora. Doors closed and door surprise notice of summer hut operation. PZS Slovenia site says hut permanently open. At hut talked to disappointed hiker from Ljutomer who wanted to continue to Tolsti vrh and lunch at Dom pod Storžičem. Bigger disappointment. No idea what's up with hut staffing around Tržič.

It seems similar all over the capitalist henhouse, because there are plenty of examples already in my close surroundings. Maybe a bit too nostalgically and with a dose of romanticism I look at it, but the mission of these huts is anything but making profit. Instead of shelters, the closed ones seem like a monument to the current greedy mentality.

Misantrof I agree...huts should be shelters and open to all who need to refuel with food and drink or overnight. But since things have changed a bit, influx of "influencers" and selfie masters who strive only to get the best photo and then right back to the car and home, post on s.ocial networks, the roles of huts have obviously changed too...

Following the above claims I just had to go on a "trip" to the Hut on Kriška gora to convince myself with my own eyes how horrible it is 
But lo and behold,... the hut is really closed Monday mornings. Then I dove into a talk with the caretaker who whined to me that shops in the valley are closed at the time he could do procurement, so nothing left but go down to valley Sunday evening, spend night with family, after breakfast shopping and quick back to hut,... and if I think well it's quite logical.
But it didn't give me peace,... "yeah but what if I need shelter???, hut closed  ..."
Nonsense, in the hut there's space meant just for that.
Otherwise I'd give all alpine huts to private hands, not a bunch of "important members" of associations behind them. Pardon,.. that's topic for another time.

First day of the year, the path without any ice. What weather! The view gorgeous. I arrived up just at sunset, so I turned around quickly and was already in the dark at the car.
