Trip from two days ago: Lepena - Krn Lake - Krn - Lužnica Valley - planina Kuhinja. No peculiarities on the path, huge number of mountain visitors.

Looks very hot, I cooked myself last time, now I'd rather go in autumn, nice pics, didn't make it to Lužnica it was too hot, even water and cover didn't help, nasmeh

I know, been up there twice recently and it's a bit too hot, jumping on Batognica and to sands because caverns easier to breathe but still a bit too hot, October if mild winter will be great.

@ales50, wasn't too hot cuz it blew all the time, in Lužnica valley there was fog. Thanks for praise re pics nasmeh

Anyone been to Vrh nad Peski these days? What's the situation towards Prehodci? Still lots of snow? thanks!

To revive the thread a bit nasmeh

Path entirely dry but more muddy esp across pastures, on Krn even early hour lots of visitors, hut still closed, bivouac nicely set up. Finally a sunny weekend nasmeh

End of June I'd do this circular tour, interested in time estimate for it? Mean pure walking (no stops) for someone averaging ~600m+ ascent per hour.

And from reading, probably best start (planina Kuhinja of course) to Krn, then Batognica, then Vrh nad Peski and descent to Lužnica pond and back to planina Kuhinja. Does it hold or better reverse?

Morning. Blue sky still at the start of the trail on Planina Kuhinja. We went with the dog a bit earlier from home to maybe catch some clarity on Krn. It usually clouds over there. And indeed Batognica clouded up. But not for long. There were quite a few hikers on the trail on Saturday 3.7. Also at the hut everything was full. Since we were early, already at 10:15 on the summit we decided to go to the monument below Vrh nad Peski. It remained a debtor. Several times Marijan and I turned back in winter conditions when we were heading there. Yesterday there were some snow patches that didn't pose problems. Met quite a few familiar hikers. And we descended through Lužnica valley. We descended to the lake in Lužnica. A bit further on the trail there's another larger snow patch. And on the trail via Planina Leskovec to the starting point. Nice July hike. And fulfilled wish.

The flag is still flapping at the branch-off to Drežnica.

From Košane they came. Brothers Janez and Janko.

the girls went elsewhere. I saw them from the path across Lužnica.

the lake in Lužnica seems larger than usual to me.

On Friday, 20.08., a hike that tempted me for a long time. Finally the time came: Lepena - Hut at Krn Lakes - Prehodci - monument at Peski - Vrh nad Peski - Batognica - Krn - Krn Lake - Lepena.
I have to say the hike thrilled me, even though it was quite long. From Prehodci to Peski the views were fantastic. Obviously this trail isn't too crowded, as I met no one until the monument. A quick jump to Vrh nad Peski, where there were still some views. On Batognica it clouded over, so no views. At least after Batognica something was visible. When you see that torn-up mountain, it squeezes your heart. Descent down the steps to Krn Saddle, where it was already a bit clearer. A bit more and I was on Krn. On Krn quite a few people, but not excessive crowds. On the way to Krn Lake again solitude and wonderful views. Most hikers obviously visit Krn from Planina Kuhinja. At Krn Lake I treated myself to a short stop and sunbathing. Then followed the hardest part of the trail, the descent to Lepena when legs get heavy. Altogether I walked 11 hours.
The hike was wonderful and I hope to repeat it sometime.

10.3.2022. From Planina Kuhinja, parking free until end of this month, we went past Leskovec. And for the first time up the steep old mule track. We needed winter gear soon in the snow on the steep and then all the way to descent. Further the trail is known to us in snow. Still quite a lot of it. Our aim was to see how Vrh nad Peski looks. Lake in Lužnica is in snow. There we descended lower because higher on the trail the ice axe didn't bite due to ice. Then no more problems, no slope all the way to the steep where we turned to Vrh nad Peski. Continued straight up steeply. On the saddle beautiful views of Julian Alps, Kamnik Alps. But we didn't know what snow would be on the ridge to the top. At 2160m we turned back due to wind-blown snow and icy crust on top. After checking that part to the top. Descended the same way. Sun was almost too hot the whole way. Snow also a bit softened on descent. But no problems. Beautiful hike on a sunny day. Just the opposite of Saturday's strong wind that blew on the way to Krn.
