Regarding Veliki Kuntar I wasn't quite sure... maybe I really made some mistake, because I was looking at the map where paths aren't drawn completely accurately. And obviously that was really Batogniško sedlo. Sorry for the mistakes.
Regarding the pics I promise next time they'll be bigger mežikanjenasmeh

In two weeks I plan to go SPP from Krn Lake to Krn and then onwards to Planina Razor. You say and pics also show lots of snow on north side of Krn. Little snow is ok if not in steep parts. Do you think it is possible to go on that snow without winter gear? Thanks for answer.

For steeper slopes including ascent to Krnska škrbina, it is better to have at least ice axe. On slip down, it can be much more "uncomfortable" at end into rocks than in winter.

Really nice day for an outing, sun, mists for cooling and a bit of snow which is a bit unusual for this time under Krn.
Even the sheep slipped a bit when jumping over snow remains.nasmeh

Today my colleague and I did a hiking tour from Lepena to Krn. As many hikers as I saw, the path is suitable for anyone. No specials on the path, even those three snowfields were southern. Maybe recommend just poles and good shoes.

Interested if anyone knows what the path from Krn past Batognica, lake in Lužnica and descent below Stadorje to Planina Leskovca is like. Is it marked and how long does it take? Thanks.

It all depends on how much the Soča front interests you, but you can be at Planina Leskovca in two and a half hours. No point in rushing because it is very interesting all the way.

I was last on Krn some time ago, but as far as I remember, the path from the summit of Krn to the saddle, from where you continue to Batognica, is marked. From the saddle to Batognica, the path is not marked, but clearly visible and trodden. One walks on paths used by soldiers on the Soča front. Be careful at some spots. From Batognica down to Lužnica and further, the path is completely normal.

Sadly, I don't remember how long we walked; I went with the club and it was a full-day tour.

But it is an interesting trip because you see heaps of iron from WWI, rifle positions in the most impossible rocks, structures built in the middle of nowhere. I heard somewhere that Batognica was higher than Krn before, then they blew up the summit during the Soča front and now it is lower. Actually, there is a larger crater on the top. Anyway, it makes you think how soldiers fought here, especially in winter conditions.

Definitely, this tour combines history and hiking. I'm sure you'll like that end there.

I was on vacation in Posočje. On 6.8.2009 I went to Krn. I started in Drežnica and went via the climbing path Silva Korena. The path is very well secured and very steep. Back I returned via the southern path.

Yesterday 9.8.2009 I was on Krn. I started the path at planina Kuhinja, climbed to Krn, Batognica past the lake in Lužnica, then descended between Maselnik and Stador towards planina Leskovca and finished the circular path back at the start. Path in good condition, well marked with nice views. The only thing needed is to go early on the path due to strong sun - nowhere on the path is there shade. It took me good 6 hours for the path.

On Saturday we set off with friends to Krn. Weather super, snowcap... We decided for the Silva Korena path; we started a bit above Drežnica. Soon we reached the bivouac (empty), 15 minutes later already before the wall. After crossing the snowfield, the first cables are already waiting. The whole path is one of the nicer, more varied ones in our mountains. We quickly advanced on the well-arranged aids (pegs + cables), and after the fine two ladders reached Gomišček shelter. From there just a couple of steps to the top. At the top sun, but the even better views were already spoiled by clouds on the neighboring mountains. To the valley we went in fast walk, run via the southern path. The look back to the top revealed already quite a big 'cap' on Krn, as is typical for these parts (the day before it was similar), so it's really worth going as soon as possible!

In the valley I recommend Nadiža and beer...

Interested in path from Komna over Peske to Krn, especially how much time needed?

From Komna to Krn summit about five hours walk. From Krn Lakes to Krn can climb left behind Lepoče and past Prehodci over Peske or straight through valley, past Krn lake over Pl. na Polju 1540m.

Thanks for the info. I've already been to Krn via this path, but the time needed had slipped from my memory. But this path Za Lepočami and Čez Peske is very nice and especially full of remnants of the Soča front.

Dear planinka, Panoramik is a bit higher up, nicely written and not only written but also attached photos of how this path looks. Well, you could also peek into some guide and map of Julians. Good luck to all on mountain paths.

Today Dušan and I climbed via Silva Korena path to Krn summit. Path was wet from dew in the morning, so quite slippery. Great caution needed! Protections technically flawless and well maintained. Descent from summit to Krn notch, from there via marked path to Batognica summit. Much already written about it, hats off to guys up there. Followed descent to Prag (Batognica saddle), from there along ridge with some easier climbing details to Vrh nad Peski, where Gorniški klub Skala put intimate summit marker. Wonderful views, peace on top and enjoying sights to sea. Descended via path to planina Kuhinja then right to Drežnica. LP Andrej
