@ppegan, did you and Mrs. Darja have the feeling that he saw you and knew you were there? How did your doggie react?
If I ever meet him, I'll post it here, if I can still velik nasmeh

@simon79, this also reads interestingly. Best to come spend those JJ bonbons in your area. Do you have any farm tourism around there, then off to the bushes to wait for the bear nasmeh

Pikica, yes, he knew we were there, he smelled us, since bears supposedly see poorly. When he ran across the pasture, Nessy and I were behind the hut on the snow, I was admiring the reeds on the dry shore, so we were well visible. During the run he stopped and looked in our direction, repeated that 3x. Nessy watched him curiously, didn't seem scared to me, as she didn't huddle up to me or show discomfort. Probably interesting to her, since she hasn't met such animals and was mainly curious.
Mrs. Darja came after us, when Nessy and I had already watched him for a while, she didn't even know there was a bear nearby. The bear surely noticed her too, as she walked much closer to him than we were, she was out in the open, well visible. But he didn't pay attention to her either, was absorbed in his doings. So the encounter was very civilized, we respectfully watched and admired each other from afar mežikanje

You can only wish for such an encounter.
Thanks for the bit wider explanation, very interesting nasmeh LP

pikica 1, yes it reads interestingly, but overall it's going a bit over the line lately and the excitement is fading. With the stroller a bit around the house, further you don't dare anymore... yesterday evening we watched him from the balcony. here: https://www.ktc.si/medved-kralj-gozdov-v-loskem-potoku/

@simon79 I believe it's annoying if you can't even walk a couple of hundred meters from home without worry. Yeah that's no longer fun.
Thanks for the added link mežikanje

This chase against bears just doesn't stop!
But meanwhile there's much greater danger that a car hits you at the pedestrian crossing, than that a bear sniffs you.

The most dangerous animal in our forests is:

a) bear
b) wild boar
c) wolf
d) bluebottle
e) tick

The question is of course for children (test from mountaineering orientation)...and even they usually know the correct answer.

Since I don't have such encounters with bears like @simon79, I'd also say that the tick is the most dangerous in our forest.

This bear debate is on a slightly wrong forum... But anyway, I add that there are far too many bears. Even experts say so. They appear where they never were. And people often don't dare go into nature because not every bear cub is so "well-behaved", harmless. Let them settle them on Golovec and Rožnik too, if every forest is already a bear's (not human's) home. When hunters cull roe deer that multiply too much, no one jumps up. But for bears... everything is wrong. There's some illogic here.

There are fewer animals because humans have multiplied so much, so don't tell me about how these poor few bears are "too many"!

Lepenatka.
You're 100% right.
Lyme disease is already everyday around here. Wife got over the last one already in April this year.
But a few years ago she barely "survived" meningoencephalitis.
Grandson at age 6 got both diseases at the same time.
We live in coexistence with bears. It's really a beautiful animal. All previous encounters with a bear I remember fondly. Including the one when he wrecked our compost bin (about 10m from the house) and feasted on its contents. Grandson lit up the bear with a flashlight, son photographed him. When the bear got tired of the battery light in his eyes, he turned around, showed us his butt and continued eating. So no one thinks too much about what he ate? He didn't eat bio waste, but the worms processing it.

We both said we have to go to Krn Lake while there's still some snow there. Or better even higher, to Planina na Polju, where you already look closer at Krn, look towards Lemež and determine the path you'd need if you head up. And both Šmohor peaks are also like on the palm of your hand. But that we'd step into mountain heaven like this, we didn't think so. Everywhere full of flowers, all sorts, but alpine houseleek has taken almost all rocks, cushioned them and you couldn't tear your eyes from its beautiful flowers. Or connect them with views towards Krn, which occasionally hid a bit, but that didn't spoil the wonderful landscape under its foothills. Only a handful of people stepped into this mountain paradise yesterday, and mostly foreigners. The path to Krn from this side without gear is probably still too problematic.

We set off yesterday quite early, afraid of the heat. But almost unnecessarily, since there was none on the whole path yesterday. With coffee at the hut we nicely rounded off the trip, but we still had some beauty ahead. We descended to Dupeljsko Lake too, which still has some snow cover on the edge at this time, and views from there towards Velika Baba and Šmohor are really beautiful. We finished with a view of part of the waterfalls and pools of Šunikov vodni gaj.
