Better for trodden and frozen snow than for ice. I intend to buy crampons, and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with chain crampons Ice Track or Mount Track.

For Šmarna gora and similar hills on easy paths they are proven okay, perform better than real crampons. But don't take them to more serious mountains.

I have the Ice Track model in my backpack in winter (on suitably gentle tours) always with me. I've also enthused friends and family members about them. Useful also on some icy mule tracks, but not safe on slopes over 30 degrees, especially downhill. This spring at around 1500m in hard snow I preferred to turn back rather than risk slipping, even just a few meters. They came in handy for me also on descents on muddy, forest paths. Before buying check well how the metal parts are embedded in the silicone: if the machine didn't hit the hole during production, the wire goes into the silicone on its own and after a while the holder breaks. Just in case it's good to squeeze possible too wide steel wire joints a bit with pliers. But the manufacturers are friendly and immediately provide spare parts if needed. Summary: although more psychological aid, they can come in handy, comfy, fit any shoe, light and cheap. But never only with them into slopes that require real crampons. If you value your life. Good luck!

And to Šmarna gora on icy snow then only with 12-point crampons and obligatory ice axe? Do I need an avalanche shovel too?

These mini crampons are very suitable for trodden smooth frozen paths of low mountains, where there's lots of visitors in winter. Most injuries(sprains, leg breaks) happen precisely on frequent paths, where snow due to our warm feet becomes icy-Šmarna gora, Polh.Grmada, Osolnik, Jakob, Dom na Kališču, Ratitovec, Komna, Vogar, city sidewalks etc. Walking in them is easier than in real crampons. But don't go to high mountains in them, as keber1 already warned!.

I also successfully use them on trodden, not too steep paths of mid-mountains; they worked very well for me also on the pilgrimage path to Višarje where there are also some steep sections, but the path is not exposed. Useful thing, not of course for winter ascents in high mountains.

yeah, possibly with climbing , from you one would expect smarter statements, otherwise I thought these "toys" aren't for high mountains, because there was talk this year already about how people went up Triglav with these "chains" and since these crampons, if you can call them that, have a large number of supporters here too(probably because of price and they're light)it makes sense to ask what's worth more... if you use them on flat and mid-mountains it's your decision. Personally I can't stand to see them, let alone put them on...

Old, thick, really quite thick, hand-knitted socks!!! These socks on hard snow, even icy, grip at least as well as the most modern chains. And they're also bio, eco and whatever else. Socks of course.

I don't understand why such a campaign against chains. They understandably don't belong in high mountains, but the campaign against them even on smaller hills is like demanding mandatory use of chains on cars regardless of winter tires worn.

No photo unfortunately, that with hand-knitted happened at night and everyone was covered over the head

These crampons are really super for walking and running on normal hiking paths. I use them mainly for the latter. They're light, durable, fit any footwear and you can easily put them in your pocket if you don't have a backpack. But not suitable for high mountains and more demanding hiking paths.

Hello! What about Veriga model Mount track, does anyone have experience with it? (http://www.bokal-sport.si/Products/3163/veriga_dereze_mount_track) The manufacturer describes it as a model suitable for snowy and icy paths in high mountains, and I'm wondering how true that is. I'm buying my first crampons for paths like Debela peč, Triglav lakes, Ratitovec, nothing more demanding in winter. Thanks for help.

I have the mentioned model of crampons and I used them exactly on such paths as you mention. They have 12 teeth and proved reliable. Easy fitting and safe stepping. These are my experiences. best

I also have good experiences with the mentioned crampons. The strap on top provides additional fixed attachment to the boot. As hiking ones, very useful.!!

Thanks for the replies, they were very helpful! Today I'll get these crampons and then report my experiences. First advantage is the good price, the student pocket is sometimes shallower

you guys aren't serious "as a model suitable for snowy and icy paths in high mountains, I wonder how true that is. Buying my first crampons for paths like Debela peč, Triglav Lakes, Ratitovec, nothing more demanding in winter" always same BS! then it's f***ed and we're there. Fully agree with previous on purpose of these "little crampons" for walking and running on normal paths... HIGH MOUNTAINS IN WINTER ARE NOT NORMAL PATHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Juš, you know without chains even by car in winter you wouldn't get to many places
