I don't understand this chase against crampons like Mount track, even less the statements of some professionals who are obviously owners and the only true speakers of this forum. Last time I checked, there are also people on this site who like more accessible mountains. For these people who in winter just head to Roblek, Dobrča, Viševnik, these crampons are actually a great choice, and if they go to Triglav with them, they don't have everything polished in the upper floors anyway. If I'm wrong and this forum is only for "hardcore" alpinists, someone should tell me as soon as possible, because in that case these crampons are really completely useless and even dangerous for all true users. If I'm wrong, I'll delete my account today as well. Live and let live.

@5Xum these crampons, chains, whatever they're called are actually intended exactly for what you wrote about. Simple versions for walking and strolls more on the flat and slightly more refined versions (Mount track e.g.) for hiking to Dobrča, Kriška, Kofce, ..., and to less demanding peaks. Say lower peaks, hills. Anyone with some winter experience knows when they need more and when less equipment. And also when it's safe even without. Let me cover myself in ashes About fifteen years ago, when I was in Iran, the weather screwed us (snow on four-thousanders). My buddy had something similar to four-point crampons and they came in very handy for us We even walked slopes similar to Grintovec's roof with them

When I posted this question and read the first replies or discussion, positive and extremely tasteless things confused me, yes or no.. Now though, when I tried them on Blegos and Ratitovec, I see that they are okay for what I need them for, in short I'm satisfied, and my wife too, But I'll be afraid when I head higher to ask what you recommend for purchase..

Oh gmirko, it's not that bad, the forum is quite well visited and it's normal that every question usually gets an answer. The problem arises when certain answers start happening to people . Chain "crampons" are an extremely sensitive topic anyway . No fear, just ask, in the flood of all kinds of posts there's always something useful .

Oh FLEKSI, how nicely written, I'm in LAAAV But don't take LG's comments into account, because they are often sadly/funny, as he regularly deletes them and thus misleads people and makes the forum unreadable. Reminds me of bald JJ A colleague bought these Mounttrack crampons. He's an experienced mountaineer and wears them only on "kuclje", where they prove incredibly useful. Don't go higher with them.

Yeah you've completely convinced me now, so tomorrow I'll go buy them. For such hikes like Porezen, Ratitovec, Dobrča etc. they'll be quite good.

I ordered chain crampons last year and got them in two days by express mail. I used these little crampons on Kriška gora, Dobrča, Ratitovcu, Mali Golak... For small slopes and icy surfaces they're ok. Just watch out not to step on some root with them. Then you can quickly be on your ass. For high mountains I think they're not ok. Of course, whoever knows how can plow even with a goat

When snow starts accumulating(sticking) on these chains there can be a party too

True, it's a party when you suddenly have thick soles . Luckily the sole "peels off" quickly and you land back on the hard teeth. Of course such a sole when falling from ice into softer gripping snow. Annoying to put them on and off, since after a few meters you step on ice again. I completely agree they're useful only for "kuclje", where paths are comfortable enough. Narrow, ridge, steep drops....no way. Better stay home and run two laps around the house.

Last time someone had them on descent from Debele peči. Landed quite nicely on his butt on that slightly frozen path. So... No thanks

Interesting that you're willing to pay money for all sorts of nonsense, but about 100 euros for "proper" crampons seems such a problem that some would rather wrap barbed wire around their boots, just to then inform the forum that you can somehow crawl to the top like that too.

Misantrof, no need to be sarcastic. Some don't have 100€ for "fancy" crampons, just like they don't for some Gore tex clothes, but still they'd like to get to Ratitovec for example or Zelenica. And it's good to tell them politely too, don't you think? Sorry if I was sarcastic

This was said nicely clearly and loudly, Pohodnica56 . I'm currently jobless, and unfortunately can't afford the better ones . But when I get a job, definitely straight to buy. No worry. Hey Misantrof, I anyway don't spend much money on clothes now, because I can't afford it currently. But later the gear, this and that, will be much better and more of it.

Katty, no need to worry about various Misantrofs and others and just happily head to the mountains. Some up here are really "puffed up" arrogant. As if only the most expensive gear is the measure to reach the goal. I started hiking in mountains with cheaper shoes, old t-shirts, because there was no money for more, but I enjoyed 200 per hour when I first climbed to Velika Planina. It took a couple years to equip myself a bit better, the ascents were accordingly. But even today I immensely enjoy when I puff to some summit, even if just Zelenica. So katty, onward courageously.

Maybe my "arrogance" will save someone's life, but in any case I don't intend to praise things that seem inappropriate to me personally and thereby give certain users excessive confidence in only partially functional products.

Yes you will, if you advise properly, or rather advise against ascents that are inappropriate, advise against hikes like today to Kriško in sneakers, I was horrified, but you can get to Kriško with small Veriga crampons. Let's be friendly people and not rude to those who also want to see some beautiful piece of our homeland. You never know what situation the person asking is in. There are no stupid questions, only inappropriate answers. Lots of enjoyment on all your paths and I'll gladly read some of your comments.

Misantrof, you are exactly the type of forum user I was writing against. The type who thinks that only pros are here, who if they don't climb at least the north face of Triglav, don't call it mountaineering anyway.
With nagging about these crampons you won't save even one life, if that one listens to more normal comments from the hiker and others first. From those comments he'll realize that he shouldn't go with micro-crampons on routes where life is in any danger, and that will save his life sooner than your lecturing that he has to spend at least 100 euros on gear.
And about these 100 euros. I'm a student with 250 euros scholarship. The difference between 20 euro micro-crampons that get me everywhere I want and those for 100 is money I have enough for food for two months. So yes, some of us in Slovenia for whom 100 euros is a lot, and saving 80 euros means a third of monthly income.
Or do you think such people have no business in the mountains?

Those who know me a bit... and based on own experiences, more or less pleasant. I too was once conditionally against various "looks like crampons" aids. Like, either nonsense or waste of money for the real ones or even with that you can go almost anywhere. There are different paths, different terrains and different people. And if the attic is somewhat sorted, micro-crampons/chains/little chains are more than fine
There are alpine and touring chicks... There are ice axes and tools (machines) And there are limousines and SUVs
