Mali and Veliki Snežnik

Today I did the ascent on the marked path from Mašun direction past the chapel of Mary of the Snows, over Little Snežnik, the ridge and then to Big Snežnik. When the path comes out of the forest onto snow-covered dwarf pines crampons are obligatory and then all the way to the top. Snow among the dwarf pines sinks in some parts, otherwise it's hard and the crust easily carries a person. It was blowing like the devil, I'm used to Primorska bora, as it threw me hard twice. Weather sunny, could see far into Kvarner (Rab, Krk, Cres and Lošinj). Dolomites, Julian Alps, Karavanke and Kamnik Alps all had dark caps. Conditions for descent on the same path were perfect. From koča Draga Karolina two ski tracks were visible. Nice regards Andrej

Yesterday, 8.2.2008, we traditionally climbed Snežnik.

On Sviščakih it was blowing hard, there was not much snow, on some parts the road was a bit frozen.

The ascent was nice, a little frozen snow. Nothing sank in.

On the top it blew less than on Sviščakih. The hut was open. Lots of people!

Clouds were higher than Snežnik, so nice view to Kamnik Alps, also nice view to the sea. Just need to jump mežikanje

Today I tried up, but turned a bit below the summit. It blew like hell, nothing seen due to fog. Others also turned. Only two met who came from the top.

I was up yesterday, Sunday. Above tree line dense fog and strong wind. On top a few of us - hut open. Conditions for ascent very ok. Especially descent from top super - skiing in boots. Not too much snow.

hey, I'm wondering if the road from Leskova dolina to Sviščakov is drivable, cuz I'm from the Cerkniška side and don't wanna drive to Bistrica?

On Sunday it wasn't drivable, but with good tires you can get to that intersection where you turn right, to the top it's another two hours...

thanks for the answer but I don't know where you mean!
how much snow is there on the path, probably frozen.
seems you can maybe drive to the sign for the footpath over Grdodrago or something like that.
How does the winter ascent look, I suppose once in March?

go from Čaša above Leskovo dolina. To Čaša by car, road dry, ahead to Snežnik top ca 2h

Hello

I'm wondering if anyone has been to Snežnik in the last few days and can tell what the conditions are like up there and what the road to Sviščaki is like, because my buddy and I plan to go up tomorrow to shoot the sunrise.

Thanks for the link.
It was great. At seven we were at the top, a bit late for sunrise, nevertheless nice photos turned out.
In the first part of the path snow was very soft and it was quite strenuous in the upper part but the snow cover was harder and it was nice to walk. nasmeh
