Also yesterday similar conditions on Snežnik, sunny, wind and quite cold. Last part of path icy, so crampons and ice axe pretty much mandatory. Hut was open and hut keepers very friendly. Regards and good luck

Road from Mašun towards Sviščaki (so from Loško polje) not plowed (10 km). Because of that I went to first slightly higher hill, skied back to car, then back. For this weekend I plan to go to Sviščaki via Ilirska Bistrica, hope this time it works nasmeh And that it won't be too slippery cool Regards to all mežikanje

Yesterday on Snežnik from Sviščaki. Towards summit very icy, without crampons and ice axe almost impossible. Regards

I was also yesterday on Snežnik and without crampons. Friend with me, also without crampons. And met some other crazies like that. Will have to buy crampons, because we all risked a bit. Hut keeper said that one day before someone slipped from Snežnik summit all the way to bottom (cca 100 m above sea level) and survived; clothes pretty torn.

There were about 10, but skiing couldn't have been too enjoyable for them, as edges on ice and steep slope simply didn't grip.

Yesterday, 25 February with colleague on Snežnik. To saddle path possible without crampons, further on I VERY recommend them, or rather say almost impossible to reach hut without using them. Say there was bora and fog, and some sun too.
Recommended to notify hut keeper at Sviščaki or at least sign in book.
This year already two rescues

Today I also climbed to summit from Sviščaki. Sun accompanied me, snow in "valley" more spring-like, upwards increasingly icy. Due to previous recommendations I got crampons yesterday and they really came in handy!! Descent skiing was real pleasure! Nice regards to all, Matjaž mežikanje

On Saturday I'm planning to head to Snežnik from Sviščaki for the first time. Wondering if there's any avalanche danger on this tour or if I should watch out for any other hazards? (given it's been snowing heavily all week). Going with a group that's been to Snežnik before, but in summer.

Due to the mountain's position conditions on Snežnik can change pretty quickly (thaw, ice-up, wind). Southern slope of Mali Snežnik can be avalanche-prone, then you're already on the ridge to the top. In snowfall with wind orientation is demanding or even impossible. Around Snežnik there are quite a few pathless areas, so better stick to the path. Hut keeper and staff are very friendly. Nice weekend.

Hi. So I'm also planning up for some ski touring on Sunday. Wondering if those little crampons with 4 teeth would suffice, since I lent my 12 teeth to a buddy? Please if anyone goes up Saturday let me know how avalanche-prone and frozen it is up there.

Those small crampons with 4 teeth are very dangerous on steep terrain, as you might think you're safely equipped, but in reality you lack front teeth (ascent) and heel teeth (descent).
Two weekends ago at least 7 (that I know of) slid down that steep slope, including those with proper crampons. I know of at least 5 broken ribs and that's just one, don't know about the others. So be careful and with proper gear!
As for avalanche risk, too early to say, but it increases year by year. North side has avalanched several times, and last Saturday slabs on north face were popping (read: 2nd-3rd degree avalanche-prone)
Hut will be open.

Well here we are, just arrived from Snežnik, weather was gorgeous, at least in the morning, bora wasn't too strong, afternoon clouded over but no real hard freeze or wind, tons of ski tourers too... Tomorrow weather similar to today so can go ski touring no problem, of course crampons mandatory, even those with 4 teeth, our buddy had them and no issues. Not avalanche-prone and not too icy either, so smile on and happily to the hill velik nasmeh nice greetings

On Sunday March 8th we were on Snežnik, ideal conditions for hiking, fairy-tale weather, unique views, lots of hikers, great atmosphere, hard snow, no crampons needed in upper part, descent to valley on skis.

Has anyone been to Snežnik in the last days? Tomorrow weather probably won't allow (strong bora), Sunday looks suitable for a visit?
Greetings all.

Sunday I want to walk from Sviščaki to Snežnik and then ski back down to Sviščaki. Of course interested in snow conditions. Thanks.

Today (Saturday) it's foggy and south wind is blowing, which means snow is still drifting heavily.
There's still plenty of snow for now, although surprisingly a lot has been blown away.
The path is still firm for now, but when stepping off the track the snow gives way.

Has anyone been to Snežnik in the last few days? What are the conditions up there? Crampons? Road to Sviščaki drivable, snowy?
For Saturday if sunny I plan to go up, don't want any surprises.
