Currently not yet, but if there are more heavy precipitations, it could be soon. Now the holes from Leskova dolina direction are still visible, so with proper equipment we can still go between them, otherwise better to bypass them. In the final ascent stick to the left side looking towards the summit, there are no holes there.

Here and there in these descriptions (not about Snežnik, but generally) on some photos there appear guiding lines that virtually "mark" pathless sections. Personally I'm not for such "tourist" guidance ... but I'd immediately support if some good expert of snowy Snežnik slopes marks (draws) dangerous areas on suitable photos where sinkholes are hidden. I don't think it could replace the rule that a novice in winter conditions should always stick to the track (if there's none, don't go on the tour), but it certainly wouldn't hurt. Actually, thinking broader, it might be worth considering separate descriptions of approaches in winter conditions (not just Snežnik), which, as we all know, often don't match (at least partly) the summer approaches.

That sinkhole 'a bit below the summit' is very dangerous, as even when apparently covered, it hides a hole under the snow! Namely this sinkhole, like most in karst world, 'breathes', meaning warmer air blows through it from underground caves than the cold outside, consequently melting snow from below upwards. Common is the case when on the surface of snow-covered sinkhole we see no trace of cave or hole, but under the snow hides a deadly trap. Below also maps of sinkholes on Snežnik (NOT ALL), visible on the page http://www.geopedia.si/, I added two sinkholes, but we must know that Snežnik hides many more: Also article with mentioned fatal case on the first map: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/35025/

Hi! Today I went up close to see Snežnik summit. I started quite late, so I didn't get any ray of sunshine. Probably my predecessors had that luck. Path is nicely trodden. At the top cold wind greeted me. Anyway, it was nice. Lp.

Today Snežnik was quite visited. But about snow almost no trace left, thaw did its job. Just a little remains from "drvarnica" to the top. I don't remember so little for New Year. (Still adding - last three pics - from two weeks ago, left in forgotten camera in hut until today.)

3.1. on Snežnik about 20 cm of dry snow, so crampons not needed and for a change almost no wind. Quite a lot of visitors though. Sarma in hut super. Lp

A bit late, but anyway 1.1.10 we from PD Loška dolina went on traditional New Year ascent to Snežnik. Not much snow, and not too windy either. In hut cheerful, as befits the day

Me too with delay. With family three days at Sviščaki, first day wonderful weather, second day early morning still dark to the summit, up there still nice, windy as usual, when I returned to Sviščaki it was already properly snowing. Food in hut super, kids enjoyed most (in spring we'll check if our snowman still stands). L.p.

Yesterday my colleague and I visited Snežnik. Already at Svinščaki on the parking lot it was blowing like crazy. From the settlement to the last parking lot it was okay. At the saddle it was blowing very strongly again. On the ascent we persisted almost to the top. I quit about 15 minutes before the summit, colleague persisted to the end. I also tried my new Meindel Matterhoren Extrem boots. After three hours of walking they performed as if I wore them every day. Good boot. At Iglu sport I borrowed TSL snowshoes and also tried snowshoeing. It worked very well for walking on the path from the saddle onwards, where the winter path goes through junipers and scrub. Colleague occasionally sank in, but mine held me very well on top despite kilos(100)

Hello! Karletto, from where did you go to Snežnik? From Podgora? Or were you on Slavnik from Podgorje?

A new sinkhole is appearing on Snežnik. Namely this ´blowhole´ is already known, but never so big, as on the upper edge in current snow conditions it's about 4m deep! Dangerous because it lies directly next to/under the path!

Today I managed to get to Snežnik. Also today it blew hard. But it wasn't as foggy as last Saturday. Occasionally it cleared up nicely and the sun appeared, so the path was clearly visible.

Has PD Loška dolina already returned from the top?

Hello, Tomorrow we plan to conquer the summit of Snežnik, and I'm wondering from where it's best-nicest to start towards the summit?

Best is to go up from Sviščaki, which you reach by road from Loška dolina or from Ilirska Bistrica. There leave the car in the parking lot and follow the signs for Snežnik... regards andrej
