I recommend using crampons below the summit, it's quite icy.

Two days ago I asked about the drivability of the road to Sviščake and the caretaker said the road is plowed, but on two steeper sections slightly icy. He advised taking chains besides winter tires if needed.

The road to Sviščaki is plowed and drivable. Towards the summit today it blew quite a bit. Otherwise it's nicely trodden, only below the summit the snow is quite hard, so recommend crampons!

Conditions this morning were really not friendly... At Sviščaki with light snowfall, I set off to Snežnik summit. Due to thick fog and strong wind after about an hour ascent, decision not to reach summit today was only smart and reasonable. In these conditions senseless and irresponsible to continue. Quite a few of us shared the same opinion; another time Notranjska beauty will let us come. Not today. lpmežikanje

Already in Leskova valley light snowfall greeted us, giving nice mark to today's tour. It accompanied us through wonderful forest whole way to plateau under Veliki Snežnik and then to summit. To plateau conditions excellent (ca 10-15 cm new dry snow), onwards for skiers skins mandatory due to windpacked terrain, for hikers axe and crampons. Ascent to ridge and hut along frozen ridge, fog descended over Snežnik. In hut warming with hot tea, nice talk with caretaker then careful slow descent to ridge, turned back ascent direction. Through forest whoop at wonderful ski run which ended too quick. LP Andrej

Today I did long planned tour to Snežnik in winter. Last year illness prevented it so this year even happier return. Really winter tour. Already driving to Sviščake more and more snow. From start even more. Walk to treeline strenuous snow soft sinking dry churning under feet draining strength. Path not trodden yet. Above treeline pleasant late enough sun softened snow no crampons needed to summit. Short breather below summit then to friendly hut keepers for refreshment. Return to valley beside path crowds to summit standing by path pointless. Pleasantly tired nice weather back to start. Descent easier trodden by over hundred hikers met ascending lp Borut and Martina.

Yesterday on Snežnik from Leskova valley via Gašperjev hrib. Weather as typical for Snežnik - changeable, as fog already gathered around the summit in the morning, which didn't want to dissipate, but not too dense - visibility around 40-50m, below the forest line even the sun showed up, lower it was a really nice day. We went with snowshoes and made a nice track, which will at least sink under Gašperjev hrib, as current temperatures are (too) high. Again we met a couple of roe deer and followed the bear all the way, whose tracks sank deeply. Total up and down good 6 and a half hours plus stop on top.
Below the summit crampons were really useful too, as it was quite icy.

Hi! Has anyone been to Snežnik in the last few days or even today? Interested in conditions, fog and snow height.

I haven't been personally but they told me that the snow above the dwarf pines sinks to the waist!

After a long time my colleague and I visited Snežnik again. Almost the whole way I had to go with snowshoes because snow sinks. Part of the path at the chapel above Svinščaki is bare. Colleague who weighs about 20kg less managed the path nicely without aids. In the hut homely atmosphere, as Janja and Slavko take care of that. They served us homemade schnapps. Down to valley around 12h. Just below hut we met another 10 hikers. So probably very poor attendance that day
Must say that light rain (dew) soaked us three times, on top there was even granular rain (snow)

Interesting how little snow from Sviščaki. From Leskova dolina side snow starts already at 950 m above sea level, there 20 cm, higher quite over 1.5 m.

Today on Snežnik from Sviščaki. Morning again unfriendly weather, strong bora and fog that closed the views, which are otherwise wonderful from the top in good weather. Still quite some snow on the path, but spring influence noticeable, as it's quite soft. Clouds dispersed a bit after we left, so occasionally could see around a little. Greeting also to very friendly caretakers Janja and Slavko. J & S nasmeh

Yesterday conquered Snežnik from Sviščaki. Path is muddy and on descent quite slippery too. It was nice.

A couple of impressions from Saturday's hike from Sviščaki to Snežnik. Weather changeable but surprisingly no rain soaked us, even though there were showers and downpours nearby. Otherwise super walk... Winter variant tempts me, unfortunately didn't manage it this year.

Yes, it's true. Otherwise I admit that about this -as one fellow hiker put it- "weed" I really don't know much. Flowers are nice to me, here and there I even know what some are called and that's enough for me for now.

Apparently edelweiss also grow on top. We went to check the site but the hut keeper says there was still snow on top a week ago, so they're a bit late. Regards
