I'm wondering if anyone has been up there recently and if there's any description of the ascent and descent?

MATKOVA KOPA 1957m from the guesthouse of the sisters Logar. Forest road through Matkov kot by car to Matka farm or road along valley bottom near Jezera spring. On foot to the small hydroelectric plant: 40 min. In the forest find on the left bank a poor cart track that leads to Kočnar farm. From there right past fields and hay meadows on slightly inclined terrain to Matka farm. 30 min. Above it turns a poorly marked path on the eastern slope of the ridge. Ascend in zigzags on steep slope until we reach wide part of ridge summit at Ravne planina 1600m. 2 h. On the ridge see border stones. Last part of path along ridge summit south. Summit rock of mountain changes from Karavanke structure to white limestones of Kamnik and Savinja Alps. 35 min. Pleasant adventure, good orientation, LP-ROK mežikanje

Description exists of course, Geppo. I think in Stritar's guide.

I did it years ago up there from Matkov kot. Beautiful approach! nasmeh

Key problems? Hard to find start of path from valley to Matkova cirque, crossing two clogged gullies, labyrinthine pathless terrain from path to summit (path doesn't reach summit) ... mežikanje

Definitely recommend reading the words from the guide. cool

Thanks for answers! I've eyed it many times and know it's quite difficult and unvisited. You seem to know too that path to summit is hard. I won't tackle it alone, if I find someone ready to go I'll go. Working on it!

Happy about this message!
We could make contact and go up. 4 participants want the summit - we have all gear too. Also personal friend of Matko farm (transport/return). We are in good shape and 3 have done quite some hikes.
If serious let's connect and make hike (this year or next). I watch this summit from Mrzla and Pavlič top and it attracts me incredibly. Month ago talked at Okrešelj with Mr. Kopušar (G.R.) and he explained ascent and descent to this summit.
If you mean serious we'd be glad to arrange!

Yesterday to Matkova kopa past Matkova krnica. Path dry except one snow patch, not problematic. Silence, wonderful views, chamois, edelweiss blooming everywhere, streams babbling. On return wanted via Austrian side to Matkovo sedlo and farms but no path found so back same way. Can someone describe where that trail is (partly on map). LP all!

Today to Matkova kopa. Parked at Perk and up to Matkova kopa via Jerebič and Matkov Grintovec. Beautiful tour for soul and body.

Above 'Matkov zub'. Just below the ridge ...

Above the most difficult part (almost vertical section of thin scree, which is more of a hindrance) ...

Final enjoyable scramble along the narrow ledge to the north summit ...

On a beautiful and too short day I decide for a visit to Matkova Kopa. Knowing that the approach is demanding in all respects, I would be quite satisfied to reach only the idyllic Matkova cirque. But everything went by luck and I reached the top and descended before night velik nasmeh

No snow on the path, some gullies are icy even before the cirque, all very gravelly. Trail through forest icy under leaves in places. Summit part dry, very crumbly.
