Latvica doesn't look trodden at all yet.

As long as it's so snowy, it has never been trodden. Under Latvica you have to be early at this time, because the sun immediately shines on the hill above and starts to fall and roll towards Škaf. I've experienced that and then preferred to return via Okrešelj. There in such conditions it's objectively safer access.

Just yesterday evening I was thinking that there hasn't been a post from Kopa this year yet... nice Drago.

Many years have passed since I was on Kopa. And I went to check if I can still find the lower access from the kot. At the beginning the roads before the entrance to the hunting trail confused me a bit, then it went. The path is less trodden and steeper than I remembered. Heat and stuffiness pressing, step heavy. Temperatures always higher, condition downward . So with the krnica the goal was reached. The water spring is usable only for Geppetto, who always has some tool to catch drops. For the rest of us it's better to supply at the streams on the ascent path. I met no one, the parking lot was empty too. But yeah, nice to return to these wild corners.

On this spring, oops, winter day, I visited Matkova Kopa again. Temperature and sun were just right for my old body and getting vitamin D. Snow is rather little for this time, and even that was crusty. I ascended via the middle path and descended there too. Most snow was in the second half of the middle path. Upper part almost rocky. View fantastic. From Krn to Grossglockner, and even further east. On the summit I sat for a whole hour, which isn't my habit. There was complete peace and great ambiance. I just now realized that from this almost two-thousander you see a lot. Not only do its little paths tire you out.

Sunday loop: Pavlicevo sedlo - through forests - Lesnikovo sedlo - Jerebičje - Matkov Grintovec - past the saltbox - traverse - "the real gully" - summit - back, this time along the path around Jerebičje - along the border back to Pavlicevo sedlo. On Kopa I was there this time for the second time. On the first visit, the choice of spot to leave the traverse teased me: I figured out the direction of the easiest approach only after quite some trying at the wrong spot. This time there was no trouble: I immediately recognized "the real" chimney. But I missed the entrance to the overgrown path through the scree; when it was clear that I was too high, my companion and I decided to go straight up the gully, left of the scree. Out of the gully, he climbed via the middle crack, I via some left variant. After the exit, signs of pruning in the scree showed up: I take that as a sign that we hit some "other normal variant". A bit higher, we reached the trodden path on the Kopa ridge. There "mountaineer greed" announced itself – my companion wanted to scramble on the Austrian side past the rocks between us and the summit, I was looking towards Krnica ... but the day was hot, water was getting less and less, the plan was only the "normal route" anyway and I allowed no deviations: we headed along the SLO side of the ridge towards the summit. Our paths were soon joined by the cut path that we had sought lower down before, followed that jump under the summit and we were already standing on the summit of Kopa. The chocolates that we used to leave in the jar years ago are no longer there, I hope they came in handy for someone. Down we returned via the cut path through the scree that we had missed on the ascent. My companion was annoyed by ants, scree and heat, and opinions clashed: to me the scree variant was better liked (easier), to my companion the gully was far closer to his heart. To each his own ... Then we slowly returned to Matkov Grintovec, descending the path around Jerebičje and then along the border past Pavlicevih sten to Pavlicevo sedlo. This last part was the day's highlight in its own way, a perfect zen walk ... until it came to the last 300m of descent, which was overgrown and we picked up quite a few ticks. The mood was lifted by the abundance of wild raspberries along the path, chatting with the local who brought stones to the saltbox, and similar trifles. In a couple of years I hope to return again.
