How did you climb over the rocky step in the last pic?
Last time I climbed up there when it was wet and wondered how messy it'd be downwards... zavijanje z očmi

The step didn't seem hard, just slippery. Big holds in the corner under the wall. Maybe even easier down, since you lower yourself on your arms.

Worse was over and through all those fallen spruces.
Crossing across above the drop and down to the previous gully in wet snow was trickier.

Oh, this Matkova. Actually just Kopa, as locals call it. Lured me back to its white slopes again.
Today it really challenged me, though conditions were excellent winter ones. Actually first time I didn't touch any rock, everything nicely snowed over.
Lots of steep squeaky snow, some trudging through powder before Matkova cirque, little windblown snow on the scree below summit and loads of powder on middle path on descent. Otherwise always great for descent, though today there was some unpleasant crossing on rotten snow too.
Another day for the soul.

The sun around eight is already blazing fully, there from behind Ojstrica.

Avalanche deposit in the cirque, interesting.

The gully under the traverse is also nicely snow-covered. Whether the jump below is too, I don't know.

Here upwards, as the marker indicates, but it is nowhere to be seen.

Of course then into the right gully, which is also nicely filled.

On the scree, the snow is already partially melted.

Here is the nicest view into the valley.

And towards the big ones, which are already too strenuous for me.

Something was happening at Kamniško sedlo. I hope nothing serious.

Lots of powder on a firm base, ideal for descent.

A place we cannot avoid on this path. One part of the wire was under snow ice.

Yes, really nice day and great conditions. If descending an hour later, the collapsing snow would already be quite annoying.

Today up the "middle" one, descent via Matkova cirque.
Snow was in the approach gully to Kopa and in the cirque. Still quite a bit there.
Water running everywhere, so no thirst despite the sun today. mežikanje

The last more demanding section a little below the summit....

Yesterday there was a nice weather forecast and I decided to search for the path to Matkova Kopa, which I had already admired from neighboring peaks.
Meteorologists hit it this time and Saturday was wonderful, without a cloud or breeze, pleasantly warm - just right for someone heading up there for the first time into chamois kingdom!

I had once unsuccessfully looked for the start of the path to Matkova krnica, this time armed with the description from the book "Brezpotja" I found it easily and followed it to the remains of the shepherd's hut in the idyllic cirque. I took a break listening to birdsong and enjoying the sun. I headed along the well-visible trail below Matkova Kopa, went a bit too far, after 10 minutes descending I decided that's not it and returned to the ridge mentioned in the description. There I struggled a bit with the bushes, then found the right gully and climbed it to the summit. There I enjoyed the sun for a while, saw visitors on most peaks, then the descent followed, which was even a bit more tense than the ascent, but it worked out and soon I was on the path to the cirque, where after a short thought I decided to go to Krnička gora too, gotta make use of such a nice day.
Soon at the saddle, scrambling past the slabs didn't seem as dramatic as described, the little ridge and towers were pure pleasure! I'd been to Krnička gora from Latvice before, but didn't quite hit the right descent first try, so wandered in nasty steep scree terrain for a bit, then descended more and spotted the right passage in the bushes. After careful descent I sighed in relief reaching soft grasses under Latvice, lit by afternoon autumn sun and adorned with markers nasmeh

Descent went quick, few days ago path markers fixed torn cables and added new pegs, so all belays are tip-top now. Two hours later took off my boots and waded into ice-cold Jezero at the car nasmeh

Almost everything that can be seen was visible!

More like "spring-like" conditions in December on Matkova kopa. Noticeable snow cover starts at ca 1800m. Approached a bit my own way, then middle path and back roughly there too.
Definitely nice day above Matkov kot.

In the middle of the day it started to blow. On Mrzla gora even more...

Always the most beautiful part of the ascent to the summit.

Super, Drago. I see that you had the maximum too. The sixth picture nicely shows that there is no whiteness to the north except on your mountain.

It's been a long time since anything was written about Matkova kopa... nasmeh

Yesterday I wandered its slopes and paths. Along the middle gor and the upper dol, over Jevšovc to Matka. Not very wintery, compared to last year at this time.

You can't believe it, the south side is rocky.

But next winter will be harsher, judging by the trees they are preparing across the border.

On the return, on the upper path I timed the intervals in the gully when there were no avalanches.

Everything started cascading down from the slope of Kopa.

One after the other and all into the gully I had to cross. Had to wait for a temporary lull.

The crossing of the jump is now easier. Nature provided help in the form of a spruce in the right spot. But someone nailed two key holds with yellow paint there.

Milan promised to show me a newly discovered hunting path under Matkova kopa. Gladly, Zoki and I joined him today. Of course, on a quite strenuous and demanding path.
We started with the standard variant: middle path.
Whoever knows it knows that at descent or ascent into the gully an electric wire is stretched. It is quite damaged and dangerous to hang on it.
Milan avoided it and higher found an old hunting path. I think it is very little known and used. But it is quite demanding and orientationally difficult. At some places erosion has washed away the path or it runs right above a precipice wall. Suddenly short climbing details II. or the path barely holds due to erosion. Most of it runs above sheer walls. The whole path requires proper caution and experience.
In the sun we reach Jevšovc and find the path to Matkov zob. There we bump into three youngsters who were rejected by Kopa's wall and now don't know what to do...?
They join our team and after a bit more than an hour of ascent, stand on the summit of Kopa.
Follows descent. We three descend together, complicate a bit and to the traverse descend each our own way. Follows crossing of clustered gullies and soon we are at the long-awaited spring in the cirque. We refresh with cold water and tired lie in the sun. Aware of the strenuous descent awaiting us. After more than 10 hours we step on the scree plain of Kota.
We wash off ticks and sweat in the trough of the small power plant. We didn't last long in the ice-cold water. cool

But we got some likes from passersby who noticed three guys in underpants in the Jezero trough.

After a long time I was up there again yesterday. The plan was completely different. Intention was just to pick some lingonberries on the meadow under Sedlo and back home. But since there were almost no lingonberries, nice weather, I extended the tour longer and longer. At Matkov Zob I turned right towards Kopi cave. Climbing to it and up the gully further is demanding but nice. When I climbed out of the gully to the ridge route I continued to the summit right along the ridge. Descent on usual southern side didn't appeal to me because of that gully after which long ascent. So I decided for descent right along the ridge and it went really well. Nice things happened up there and more nice memories again, and this one that Matkova Kopa can be conquered also just with a banana and half liter of water. mežikanje
