Maya Maya

Hello.

I'm writing on this forum for the first time. And I'm a bit sorry that it's with such a "heavy" topic. But mainly to ask others a bit and share my experience with you so that no one else gets burned.

In the sale (reduced from 197 to 99 EUR) I bought a beige softshell jacket Maya Maya. In a store that hikers often recommend. And after exactly three wears (short "Sunday" walks around the city with the child) on the side where I carry the camera, it's completely worn out. As if it were several years old. Maya Maya with material worse than a ca. three years old softshell from Austria, which I bought back then for 30 EUR (more than 3x cheaper) and it has no such wear, even though I wore it in the mountains, with a backpack (and our "little one" in it), with this same bag at least 3x a week. Three years. The material of both looks the same, of course Maya is much nicer stitched, better zippers etc.

In short - I filed a complaint (after ca. three hours of use this really shouldn't happen) and got the complaint rejected with an expert opinion that the textile material is appropriate and that it's normal mechanical wear. I did some research on forums and found out I'm not the only one they dismissed at Maya Maya this way - with an expert. And when you file a report to the inspectorate, they apparently ask for a second opinion - you won't believe from whom (a user wrote on med.over.net forum, who reported it there). So they cynically replied from Maya after additional "arguing" that I should just use all legal means.

Now I have a jacket at home that I can't wear for city walks (it really looks badly worn, more like work clothes than for a Sunday walk), and under the backpack I definitely don't dare to put it, if a small bag already did so much damage.

Since I've often talked with colleagues, mountaineers, about mountaineering clothes and they were satisfied with these clothes (most told me that the price/quality ratio is very, very good with them), I'm interested if any of you has had such an experience (I know many mountaineers buy their products) and if you're willing to scan and send me their complaint form and expert opinion that they send as explanation. To try to proceed via ZPS, of which we are members. Since I've found quite a lot of similar experiences with their products on the internet (softshell, tracksuits, ski suits, gloves...) I believe I'm not the only one with such experience.

I know I whined a bit, but I'm really angry - this shouldn't happen to such companies.

regards

Hello,

Among us there are too many snobs, don't you think? I bought a t-shirt at Iglu sport that wore out so much after a one-day ascent to the mountains. If money was once a measure of quality, today it's a measure of rip-off. I've been buying mountaineering gear at Kibuba for years and there's no sign of wear, even though I'm in the mountains every week. But I'm one of those who don't swear by the shell, but value the content.
I go to Iglu sport only for technical stuff, and even that only when I can't get the desired item elsewhere. People went to the mountains long ago and survived without problems. The problem is really in our heads, which at least most no longer know how to use. People are becoming more and more like robots, not independent, thinking beings.

I'm really curious which store you'll turn to next time?

This seems to me to be purely a personal problem of user Matjaž and I don't know why it's necessary to post this on the forum. As soon as something doesn't suit someone, quick public bashing... purely Slovenian.
I've been using Maya Maya clothes for a few years myself and there have been no problems, and of course it's logical that clothes wear out with use, so each garment has its purpose. If you want top quality, buy a hardshell jacket not softshell, because hardshell is much more suitable for the mountains, of course I'm talking about wear (backpack, climbing harness, straps), although softshell is also slowly developing into tougher materials. I won't ramble, it's true the prices are high, but on the other hand we buyers must realize that this price covers material procurement, sewing, transport costs, customs, wages etc....vicious circle. That's how it is in capitalism.

MatjazV I recommend you contact the consumer association - in VIP magazine you can find the necessary data, addresses etc. I hope you'll manage to contribute to the fight against widespread consumer rip-offs. Good luck, and know that a real inspector would be "happy" about your comment.

My Chinese fake softshell Peak Performance for 40 EUR hasn't worn anywhere after 4 years, even though the backpack was over it countless times.
MatjažV obviously you have bad luck with the product. The seller or MayaMaya store apparently doesn't realize that the best advertisement is a satisfied customer.
Although they have nice stuff, they won't see me there, since e.g. in Kibuba, ProMontana, Iglu you get products of equal quality for half the price compared to Maya.

that's right I completely agree, maya maya won't see me (obvious reasons), but it's a fact that everything is made in China nowadays and the actual (factory) price of the product is more than 100% lower than in reality. Traders charge astronomical margins and f*** us with various excuses

It seems to me that for Maya Maya it doesn't hold that for more - you buy better. My non-expert opinion is that they have products of average quality, which they sell at prices of higher quality products. Unfortunately, we buyers are the ones who fall for it.
I think you really had bad luck and got a bad batch. But it's true that their complaint service doesn't work, just like with other Slovenian sports equipment manufacturers! They didn't want to accept my complaint at first either, but I threatened them a bit with the inspectorate, and I got what I wanted.

Thanks for all opinions and recommendations. I know - a lot of blame is on me too. When I buy technical stuff I "comb through" all forums, user reviews, test ratings, in short at least a few evenings on the internet. And in this specific case I would surely find 5 reasons on forums why buying Maya equipment last year is buying a pig in a poke. With clothes though... I go around a bit and if I like the model - I feel good in it - I just buy, especially if it's a "recognized" brand because (now I know naively) I expect some level of quality, whether softshell or something else. Even my acquaintances (who really know about it) highly recommended Maya (also Iglu).

But I don't know why it would be typically Slovenian to warn people not to make the same mistake as me. More typically Slovenian would be to stay silent, even if the neighbor's cow dies after mine. Yes, in this specific case the problem is really only mine. Next time maybe someone else in the same situation. And if we all stay silent...

Yes, I also first thought of ZPS. But I'll wait a bit, because I've contacted some people who described practically identical experiences with their textile "expert" and complaint on various forums. If they spent as much money on their materials as on him, we wouldn't be talking about this now. I'll try to support the ZPS report with some other cases, same with the inspectorate.

Also answer to the question from the first reply - Maya Maya definitely never again. jezen

You did exactly right to post the problem, comment on the forum.

I've been to this store a few times but always leave almost empty-handed. The clothes are overpriced and very overpriced.

I sign under your comment "ljubitelj gora". And add that when I look at their products and compare them with products in other stores, somehow I don't manage to buy anything from them. The stuff is really eye-catching, but as we see the quality unfortunately doesn't match.

I also have bad experiences with maya maya store. I bought shorts from them 2X and they faded after a few washes. I still have at home shorts from a recognized German brand that are 15 years old and look much better than M M products.
When I asked them what materials they use they said the best. Obviously they also tie their logo to cheap Chinese products,
then sell them expensively under DISCOUNT???????????mrk pogledjezeneek

The only right thing is that you posted this. Such store attitude is unacceptable. If people start talking about it, they'll lose customers. That's a blow where it hurts. In short, everyone should post their negative experiences, only that way can we teach stores that the customer is always right. Even if not, they deserve a different attitude. ;-)

For now Maya Maya hasn't convinced me either. I usually buy at Iglu or K2 sales.

I'm buying a softshell hiking jacket this fall, I have no experience with this. Would you be so kind and hint to me
where I should go and which one to choose?
Thanks, best regards everyone

Let me add that I also have bad experiences with Maya Maya, something similar happened to me as to Matjaž, after a few (two or three) wears of hiking pants, they were completely "pilled" and now they're no longer suitable anywhere either. The pants were discounted, original price around 120.00 EUR, given that price I'd really expect better quality. When I returned to the store with a complaint, they told me the pants were discounted precisely because they "pill", but I think I should have been warned about that at purchase.
Also, I've never been satisfied with the salespeople's attitude, they can't give useful advice, nor have I ever experienced friendliness and patience.
I like shopping at Kibuba the most, there I can really rely on the salespeople's advice, regular customers have lots of discounts, the stores are really filled with "hiking atmosphere". I've never felt that in Maya Maya, their sales are also based on heavily marked-up prices then discounted to still high prices that don't match the product quality.
Best regards.

Hello

I too bought quite a few products from the mentioned store without discovering any major flaws until recently, when I bought a t-shirt that the saleswoman advised I could wear in the mountains and elsewhere. But it turned out wrong already after the first return from the hill. Along the entire back length, two pilled lines formed from the backpack straps. When I complained about the t-shirt, I got the same response from the textile expert.

Given that Matjaž and I complained about two different products and got the identical expert report, it seems a bit strange to me. Do they even have this expert or do they just send some standard letter regardless of the product.

After reading these comments, I'm also thinking if I'll ever buy in the mentioned store again.

Best regards.

veseljak76: Can you scan that expert opinion and send it to me? I also think it's a pre-prepared letter to get rid of unhappy customers. I'll forward it to ZPS.

Otherwise, I also called that gentleman (expert) (his phone is on the letter) but he didn't answer (he was on a business trip in China, and I only heard the answering machine in Chinese on the phone). Then he sent me an email confirming again that he checked the item, is aware of my complaint (also that it was barely worn 3x and even shorter times), but according to him everything is OK with the material or per standards.

They're still selling that jacket of course, I passed by the store yesterday and couldn't help but look...

Name and surname removed from the letter, both in the stamp and header - the gentleman is a lawyer after all. The rest shouldn't be problematic in my opinion... The jacket really looks like it's 5 years old. And it hasn't even seen a backpack yet...

Interesting,

so I'm not the only one with bad experiences and, to avoid misunderstanding, I also have some of their things that I'm very satisfied with, e.g. hiking t-shirts, backpack.

About 5 years ago I bought a 5-person tent from them. Great item except for the zipper. At home we set up the tent for testing, only at the sea did we realize that both sleeping compartment zippers don't work. As soon as we got home we complained about the tent and got a new sleeping compartment. Again set up and found out that this compartment was already used, dirty from red coastal soil, and even punctured in several places by a cigarette, but the zipper was OK. Again exchange action and we got another new compartment identical to the first, zipper didn't work. Off to BTC again for new. They looked at us sideways a bit, we at them and finally they said these tents are from Israel and there's some defect with the zippers. Again we got a new compartment, which had a somewhat satisfactory zipper. Emphasis on somewhat, if you were very careful closing and opening it worked, at night when you were in a hurry it surely got stuck and you'd sleep with open space hosting local bugs.
We would have persisted if they hadn't run out of tent and compartment stock. We still have the tent today because it became excellent after we had the zippers replaced at some service in Domžale.

Maybe 2 years ago a colleague bought hiking pants from them that pilled after first wear. She didn't complain thinking it's OK since bought on sale. When she mentioned it at next purchase what happened, she got "why didn't you come to exchange them". Would it have worked?

Conclusion: hard to fight such mills, have you ever tried against Telekom or Mobitel. Interesting experience.
The only remedy is simply not to buy in such stores anymore. I still sometimes drop by, look around, check price and say: "No, thanks!"

It's right to write about such things on forums, of course if not mudslinging competition.

I suggest to all those with pilled textile problems to unite and act against them. From my bad experiences and unnecessary costs I guarantee the thesis that if you pay 100% you get 100%. But it's exhausting and they all count on your persistence.

Best regards and as many successful purchases and uses as possible,

Saša

Obviously it's about sourcing poor materials, since they had tons of complaints

I have a McKinley softshell, worn for 2 years full on, also under I don't know how many kilos backpacks, no signs of wear yet, price approx. 60 EUR, so more than satisfied.

Running or sports t-shirt from Maya Maya, price approx. 50 EUR - twice under backpack and it's completely pilled, while same type t-shirts bought at Lidl (!), price approx. 15 EUR, after many more adventures practically untouched.

Judge for yourselves.

last year I also bought a jacket+pants set on sale.
it looked nice, and by looks also quality stuff.

turned out I bought the biggest crap ski set possible. both jacket and pants, I've already had both 3x in repair at their seamstress. Torn apart:
cuffs you pull over hand for snow protection,
bonded seams that hold the hood together (after machine wash per instructions),
nets on pants tore,
zippers on pants broke (both sides),
protective lining on pants tore (at ski boot),
on inside of jacket seams are coming apart one by one
pockets on jacket tore
etc....
could list more. last time pants in service over 3 weeks. after two ski days seam tore again on pants holding leg and protective lining. since repair at maya maya takes over 3 weeks (14 stores in slovenia and only 1 seamstress), nothing left but wait till end of season for repair, fixed temporarily with ordinary clamps (totally dumb way, couldn't stitch because of glue needle wouldn't go through)
only bright side is they've repaired everything for free so far.

extremely disappointed overall. since I ski a lot I want a set that lasts whole season without issue, not carry it to repair every 3 ski days.

definitely want nothing more from maya maya brand.
