Most visited trails in snowy conditions

On the suggestion of Hribi.net forum visitors I opened a thread where we will suggest excursions suitable for walking in winter conditions.

These are trails usually trodden a day or two after heavier snowfall and do not pose greater danger due to snow avalanches.

These trails are most often trodden by locals who with their effort facilitate access to other mountain visitors.

I recommend Ratitovec, where the hut is open on weekends.

Suitable for winter beginners: Blegoš, Komen - Smrekovec, Košenjak, Krnsko jezero... They are also quite visited in winter, so the track is made quickly. We were last year in the snow on all listed peaks with kids, so really not too difficult.

Blejska koča and perhaps if there's still strength for Mrežce or Debela peč. Usually the track is made very quickly. And Velika planina from Stahovica (past sv. Primož, you can drive quite far by car), from Jurčka or shorter from Kranjski Rak or Ravne...nasmehKomna.
These are some such places where huts are also open, so you can rest warm and refresh; at least for kids it's recommended, so winter visiting doesn't turn them off.mežikanje

In winter it's nice also on Gorjanci (from Gabrje to Gospodična and then to Trdinov vrh), then a very suitable tour to Mirna gora (car stays at Vrčice), and Zasavsko hribovje... Quite a few goals can be found suitable for average hill walkers. Good luck!

Kališče and Dobrča are also suitable, as the path is well trodden right away and the huts are well stocked at weekends (both approx. 950m elevation gain, cca 2h).

Vogar is also a nice tour.

I forgot Vogar, it's good to take sleds and sled down the road leading to Planina Blato on the way back.

When talking about sledding - nice trips where it's good to take sleds along (when there is enough snow at these altitudes) are also from former border crossing Ljubelj along old gravel road to Ljubelj pass (hut open Saturdays and Sundays); in winter season sometimes rent sleds at start; other such trip from quarry (parking) above Slaparska vas to hut under Storžič. Both cases then sled down to start.

Komna, if trodden then further to Bogatinska vrata or higher. Lanževica or Bogatin, if not icy.

With abundant deep snow, nice scenic undemanding path from Rateče to Tromeja (Peč). Path always trodden in winter, hut open weekends at Trebiže. Can rent sleds there and leave them below after descent. Staff collects them. Flies like hot knife through butter. Road quite long!

With sleds one can go up to end of road block Peč at 1300m. From there long descent to valley. - Awesome!

For me still planned this year in Karavanke path from Vošca to Jerebikovec from Kranjska Gora start, then in Julians half-day from Vršič to Mojstrovka. But ridge path from Škrbina to Košutnikov turn unsuitable in winter? What about others listed and maybe Tolsta Košuta from Planina Dolga Njiva?

Thanks for answers!

Both peaks Tolsta Košuta and Košutnikov turn avalanche-prone, reachable in good conditions. Nice in winter to climb Begunjščica (ridge), Trupejevo poldne, Struška, Golica-Klek (ridge), Pokljuški venec peaks, Komna area. Path from Ig to Krim nice adventure in deep snow-800m gain. Just keep moving, it's good... Nice greeting!

I found a useful website on snow conditions for the western Alps. Locations marked with dots indicate places and all other data. The address is www.snow-forecast.com

Lubnik from villages Gabrovo and Breznica, usually trodden soon after snowfall,
Ratitovec passable already a day after snowfall, but due to avalanche danger it's recommended to wait a few days for the snow to stabilize,
Peč - Tromeja to the hut plowed, further often trodden...

Kališče, Dobrča, Kriška gora are starting points that are surely trodden by the end of the weekend regardless of the weather.

A bit more level, but still nice winter walks even after new snow:

gostišče Erika - koča v Krnici
Planica - Tamar.
