On the path there is one larger snowfield that can partly be avoided, an ice axe here would not be superfluous at all, though I didn't use it myself. The slope of the snowfield is at times just right for slipping, which could end quite unpleasantly. Regards.

On Saturday, 20.7.2013, we went past Rinka waterfall to the summit. It was a nice sunny day, so great views too. Route: Parking - Okrešelj - Mrzla gora - Savinjsko sedlo - Ledinski vrh - Okrešelj - parking. Whole tour took 9 hours. Mrzla gora really deserves respect and is only for experienced mountaineers. Quite some unprotected climbing and mostly exposed. But the rock gives excellent holds, which eases it a bit Helmet mandatory, self-belay kit only useful in first half of climbing. We had it but in second half it was just in the way. When we got down from Mrzla gora, we had time to go up to Ledinski vrh too No snow on both paths anymore Pictures from the tour on the Planinsko društvo Matica Murska Sobota website: http://www.mojalbum.com/pdmaticams/20130720-mrzla-gora-in-ledinski-vrh/slap-rinka/20942894

Our plans came true too... It had been a long-time wish for Mrzla gora and today in nice weather and with super views we succeeded. We started below the Rinka waterfall at Okrešelj and went slowly onwards. The path is demanding, it requires caution and thoughtfulness, I think it's not good to rush it, there are few protections. On the top there were quite a few visitors, some of us even knew each other from the forum. We'll return up there next time from Matkov kot to check that side too...

Hi Tonika, yeah, it was really fun on Friday. We then ran out of time, so we descended straight to the valley.. but coffee still at Okrešelj. Hope you had a nice day and see you again sometime in our beautiful mountains. Best, Andrej

Pika - are crampons and ice axe needed up to Škaf?

Janez, poles are enough, but watch for possible holes in the snow, especially at the edges of the snowfield. Good luck!

I had an ice axe with me which came in handy, because in the morning it was still all frozen. With the current heat probably not needed . Best regards.

In recent years I've somehow unintentionally paid more attention to the Julian Alps and even mountains across the border than to the Kamnik Alps, which are actually closest to me. So today my wife and I decide to pay off our debt and head to Mrzla gora to see if it's really as hard to access as you hear and read in taverns and forums. The path to the wall entrance is without issues. But when my wife quickly spots a group of hikers in the middle of the wall, she gets unsure and says it seems a bit too demanding. When I explain we've done tougher hikes and it won't be as scary as it looks from below, she decides to go on. The higher we climb these vertical walls, the more she realizes it's not that bad. This scary wall somehow disappears and a nice climb appears before us, which didn't seem that demanding. The rock is solid and compact with many holds that quickly take you to the top. The steepness and difficulty are about the same all the way, and when we stood at the top, we noted there's no point on the path that stands out particularly in difficulty. After a short break, descent down the same path, where a bit more care is needed, as descents are always harder than ascents. Still, the tour is very demanding and certainly not suitable for beginners without climbing skills.

Today I was on Mrzla gora from Matkov kot. Škaf is almost gone, but there's still quite a bit of snow below Škaf. Weather conditions were excellent, lots of hikers at the top. I expected a tougher path to the start of the ridge, but the ridge itself is quite demanding - of course, it's Mrzla gora. If I were doing a loop, I'd go up from Matkov kot and descend to Mrzli dol. In my opinion, the path from Matkov kot is more demanding than from Mrzli dol. From Mrzli dol the path is steeper, but the rock is more compact, the eastern ridge is very exposed and littered with scree.

Eight years have passed since I last tried to climb to the top, but had to turn back just below the summit due to bad weather. Since then I've always looked at it with some fear from nearby peaks. I've been gathering courage for a long time and today I finally succeeded! The mountain was friendly this time and let me reach the top... I started the path in Matkov kot, past Škaf where the snowfield was still slightly icy and hard in the morning hours, then over Latvice where the sun tempted me and a short break in the grass followed. Then the ridge to the top, which is pure enjoyment with climbing on solid rock... The summit was deserted and offered wonderful views. Then the path down to the valley towards Okrešelj and Logarska dolina. Wonderful mountain, which I'll visit again!

On 5.9.2013 we climbed to Cold Mountain. I wrote climbed, because you actually have to climb. Protections are only at the beginning, later just a few pegs. Without experience I don't recommend the ascent at all, because the descent is also demanding, it's very crumbly, and if it were wet too, I can't imagine... At certain spots you really wonder how to go on, because it's very exposed. We were with an experienced alpinist. At the summit pride filled me that I managed it, but we cheered only after the descent. Wonderful, pristine mountain, demands courage and respect.

Yesterday, 7.9.2013, (Rinka waterfall - Cold Mountain) I managed to reach the summit. wanyola described the conditions on the path nicely. A few wire ropes and pegs. Consequently I was alone on top and admired the surrounding peaks in peace. super day, super relaxation, in short super! On the forum I read comments and remarks about mass visits by all sorts of tourists to Triglav. I recommend Cold Mountain to all who seek peace in the mountains and escape from city hustle. Nice mountain greeting!
