Bravo Janez, all honor - and that alone in winter conditions on a quite dangerous mountain. Congratulations

Today I climbed to Mrzla gora from Mrzli dol above Okrešelj via western ridge. Ascent is demanding, although markings were recently renewed, not many but where really needed. Congrats to markers. Helmet necessary, path exposed and requires sure footing. No snow anymore. Best to all

Well, today I was at the top too. I've been looking forward to this ascent immensely for a long time. I was late (from the hut under Rinka only at 5:45), but to Okrešelj I needed barely half an hour, to the turnoff to Mrzla gora below Savinjsko sedlo about 45 minutes, Boštjan kept me company, who continued to Skuta and then Rinka and returned via Turski žleb (Boštjan, correct if I wrote wrong). The path (or route, if you will) from Okrešelj over the western ridge to Mrzla gora is specific, that's true. But in my opinion mainly for two reasons - full of loose rocks which in the climbing part are actually dangerous. Without a helmet this ascent is extremely risky. Second reason are orientation issues. But I think the blame does not lie with the markers, they did a good job in my opinion. Rather, I think the problem is that Mrzla gora offers its guest more freedom in route choice than usual. So an experienced hiker can take the markings on the way up just as a guide to the right direction, but chooses the ascent route himself. There are virtually no fixed protections - the fact is that protections are a very clear sign for 95% of mountain visitors that they are on the right path. If we sum all this up, we conclude that the ascent is not so problematic due to some alpinistic elements which it's wise to master if going to Mrzla gora, but much more due to other factors. Anyway, we can't and shouldn't talk about this mountain as suitable for beginners, but in the company of an experienced mountaineer, with proper gear and knowledge it soon becomes a real beauty, of which there could be more arranged this way in my opinion. Especially pay attention to markings on descent, that's where it's easiest to get lost, Mrzla gora doesn't forgive carelessness very often. A few more photos that say more ... Nice mountaineering regards, see you up there! Jure

Congratulations, Mrzla gora seems to me the top of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, because it's so unique, clean, pristine. I went up there a few years ago from Ledine. Five of us went up, three of them ladies. The only trouble was somewhere in the middle on the way back, where we had to use a rope for descent. If I got it right you went up from Ledine (from the hut below Rinka), just like us. The most fun part is where you have to straddle the ridge, at least we did, worth mentioning we had wind. Jany went up elsewhere. A bit strange path you mentioned for Boštjan. Not quite clear to me. Wish you more such beautiful ascents, pics are super.

Well, now I really don't know anymore what's it called there - anyway I went past Čajz shelter to Okrešelj, parked below Eagle's Nest, end of road in Logar Valley. I always pick this path when heading to this end of the Alps. I also "rode" the ridge, wind was there too - and strong. The little bridge just below summit seemed great to me, before that traverse where actually nothing left or right, just rock from one ridge to another. No trouble descending, but really some spots where you gotta be very careful. But agree, as you said - unique and pristine. Beautiful. For Boštjan don't know exactly where he went, but I wrote correct me if wrong. Damn, I feel kinda bad, been here so many times but not 100% on names ...

Now I get it, you didn't go from Ledine, shelter you mean the small wooden hut so small that barely three can squeeze in. We called it dog kennel, forgive the term. So we took same path to top. Can go from other side too, but that one's even more extreme. Have fun. Soon going to Jalovec from Tamar. If interested, message me private!

The Čajz shelter is quite a nice log cabin and stands a few meters before the Dom na Okrešju. Rinka - probably Mali Gobar meant the Rinka waterfall and not the mountain. I assume that the shelter you mean, Velkavrh, is the one right below the summit of Savinjsko sedlo (in the picture). The path to Cold Mountain from Okrešelj branches off earlier. I hope this helps you both

No, now it's clear. Of course I meant the Rinka waterfall, hard to park on those other three Rinkas . The Čajz shelter I'm talking about, Potepinka described and it's really by Okrešelj. "Dog houses" I didn't see because the path already turns right to Cold Mountain earlier. Other path you mention is probably the one past Škaf from Matkov kot. Gotta hike it, then I'll report if it's harder or not. Can also together. Jalovec from Tamar? Sure, let's go. Already writing PM. Best regards to all Jure

I haven't even seen the Čajz shelter yet. Now everything is clear to me. I went from Ledine.

Today I did the Ravenska Kočna - Cold Mountain tour for the first time and back the same path. I must say I had a lump in my throat in the morning, given the weather (wind and not very clear) and all the writings about the hardest mountain of KSA and how dangerous it is etc... I can say the mountain is no big scary thing... To me it didn't seem difficult at all. The only thing needed is concentration and stamina plus good visibility, no talk of difficulty. The fixed protection seemed sufficient to me, so also from that side I don't know why so much writing... From the cable car to the top I took 3 hours and not 5 and a half hours as written in the description. Back I walked also approx 3 hours, together with snack and other stops. I can only say the tour is fine

Of course. I forgot to add that my description is subjective. But it's true that often we forget people can be very different, with very different abilities, so this tour can be very demanding for someone... LP!
