If I didn't live in Slo I might even believe it. You're dreaming about luxury, well done

I hope they really won't build some hotel on Okrešelj. Winter evenings (and New Year's parties) at Frischauf were unforgettable velik nasmeh

We don't need any luxury in the mountains. And the comparison with Austria is unnecessary. Even when they build new huts they won't take proper care of fire safety. They won't install emergency ladders, there won't be fire stairs, no fire alarms, no cameras... Check the rescue possibilities in case of fire in Austria, Switzerland, France.... Fire safety in the Republic of Slovenia is only on paper and when disaster comes responsibility will be shifted from back to back. Imagine a packed full hut when fire breaks out at night. From the ground floor deadly smoke and fire will billow up the stairs and landings towards the common bunks. Stairs act as a chimney!! Evacuation path is often just one - the stairs. Escape through the window equals a jump from 7m-10m. Those who don't jump will burn or suffocate with smoke, those who jump might survive but broken. People in the attic will burn and be unrecognizable, those in the lower parts of the hut will have a smile on their faces as the "only" silent killer CO - carbon monoxide will kill them. Which hut in Slovenia has installed fire stairs, rescue ladders, thicker ropes, smoke and fire detectors....

Yes, all that's true, in Slovenia everything is still more or less at socialism and Balkan level. Here something actually needs to be done and Okrešelj is a good reminder for that.

On the other hand if we're honest many huts don't have (all) that either, especially in the Romance part of the Alps, but also in Germanic many. Say, I don't remember seeing a hut with fire stairs anywhere.

And as I mentioned, even such fire safety and rule compliance can't protect us from individuals who don't care about them and from idiocies like the cause of fire at Korošica. More and more people go to mountains anyway and thus more with (much) lower IQ than average.

In the January 2018 presentation they state that four huts burned in the last 50 years. Which ones were they?
1. Dom na Zelenici: December 1999
2. Kocbekov dom: October 2017 (winter room)
3. ?
4. ?

How long did it take for Dom na Zelenici to reopen? On the web I find only this: "The hut completely burned in December 1999. The society rebuilt it and it's open again since 2011."

12 years?

cofka, thanks for the feedback. Full praise to the society that allocated part of the earnings to visitor safety. Big bow, obviously one of the few aware of the issue of evacuation paths in mountain huts.

parenzo,
I myself posted the same link on 17.11., but it didn't quite work for me - I'm not very skilled. Whoever wanted to read something still managed. Your link is better-although the samevelik nasmeh, and I wish many climbers read it. As it says in this public notice, there's a little something to think about. We all know that quite a quota of money turns over in mountain lodges, but still: how much does a smoke or carbon monoxide sensor cost?? somewhere around 30€-50€ How much does a few-meter aluminum or iron ladder cost?? Around 100-150€, how much does an older hemp rope or ship mooring rope cost?? Say around 100€. All listed things can help with evacuation. The umbrella organization PZS has pointed this out, perhaps still does, but damn it, the highest authority in the Republic of Slovenia is responsible for this.
And say and write, this authority is: Inspectorate for Protection against Natural and Other Disasters, and if you google it we find out that this inspectorate is part of the Ministry of Defense, which carries out supervision in the areas of fire protection, protection and rescue, and protection against drowning. They say they come for inspection every few years... yeah mountains are high, it takes a few hours to Kredarica, inspectors definitely don't come on foot. Sadly, paper and website endure everything, but when disaster comes, this outpouring of opinions on this portal will be pointless. We are too little aware of how quickly disaster can strike!!

Nino,
I completely agree with your findings.
We can collect bets on when both lodges (Korošica and Okrešelj) will be renovated. The monetary contributions-bets, after the betting action is completed, go to one of the lodges.

jpmi - why would it be good for the moderator to put these posts under another title. Aren't these the current conditions - the lodge burned down. A few days ago it was nicely written, if the tenant or caretaker of the Okrešelj lodge had turned off the main fuses, there shouldn't have been overload of the electrical system, wrote a forum member. Maybe there was some food in the chest-fridge, and the tenant decided that electrical consumers should stay connected? We don't know, but even when I left my home lodge and went trekking in the Himalayas, I closed certain water valves at home and unscrewed a fuse, since there's no need for the whole house to be under voltage. We need to talk about such and similar things and find a solution.

Aha, in that disgusting socialism the hut was built in four years! With the technique, technology and machines of that time.

VanSims, back then we were friendlier and more cohesive than today, people helped each other and it was no problem to do some shock worker hours, what about today? you ask someone for help and they rather send you where you've already been, that's our culture today.

If you helped him sometime, he will help you too. It's that simple and nothing has changed in that regard.
The only wrong thing is that the state interferes in friendly help. But, sadly, hand on heart, friendly help is not always "friendly", but there also appear those who avoid taxes.

dprapr, what you claim doesn't always hold true, I have bad experiences, 20 years ago I made tables and benches at one of the mountain huts that are still usable today, got a cold shower this year when I visited that hut.

The Partizanka on Pohorje also burned down.
It wasn't managed by PD, but it was used solely by hikers.
