Pilgrimage to St. Višarje

Today we moved to the winter landscape. Dressed in white, we first struggled a bit to waddle up the pilgrimage path to the top of Višarje, enjoyed wonderful views of nearby and distant peaks.... Hot tea of course was not available, everything closed, even the church. A nice surprise was waiting on the descent... Finally some relief.... All three of us breathed deeply....

We quickly ascended to the Višarska plateau.

Yesterday to Sv. Višarje from Žabnice. Path trampled, huge crowds, weather fantastic...

Pilgrimage to Višarje, 31.12.2019. Snow to lowlands, crampons needed only downhill, we two went down with gondola.

What are the conditions along the path to Svete Višarje?

Conditions for hiking and skiing excellent. Up to where you first see the lift, maybe microspikes (chains), if it gets harder, higher up somewhat soft in places, but nobody had snowshoes. Situation on Saturday, day before yesterday.

Yesterday we started our hike to Višarje at farm tourism Ojcinger. A bit higher we stepped on the service road and nicely in a line to the top. Here without snowshoes nothing would be done, even with them up to 20cm deep. We descended via the pilgrimage path, which is already so trodden we needed no aids.
