Pilgrimage to St. Višarje

Today we did the ascent to St. Višarje via the pilgrimage path. The path is snow-covered, but has a few bare sections as a result of last week's thaw. Snow is hard and a bit icy, but today snowshoes or crampons weren't necessary. We didn't continue to Kamniti Lovec because avalanche danger is still high, but we saw some skiers who climbed to the foot and skied down from there (don't know if they went to the top). Nice greetings and many nice tours in the new year.

Yesterday I got up early and went alone to Višarje. The first part of the path is a bit icy and slowly melting, so I took off skis once or twice. Then the path is nicely snow-covered. On the way I met acquaintance Massimo with snowshoes. I think I hadn't seen him for almost 20 years. I recognized him right away and we went together to the top, where it was a bit too chaotic, but normal for that time and weather. No one on Kamniti Lovec, view super. On the ski slope relatively few people and thus the piste better preserved.

On Saturday I finally set off for this long-desired goal. But everything went wrong for me. First my companion overslept and after 40 min waiting I went alone to Italy. I lent my better touring gear to a colleague. And since good deeds are punished, soon after the junction to St. Višarje and Kamniti Lovec the heel broke off at the bindings. Shortly after that the skins (already crappy ones) failed. Only stubbornness pulled me further. Through the fog the sun was showing and I saw the top of Kamniti Lovec. Although I hate postholers, I totally ruined a good part of the skin track. From the hollow onwards it was a bit better, so I made it to the top. It was really so nice there that I soon forgot all the ascent troubles. Descent down in broken telemark style didn't pose major problems either. After the obligatory hello to Mary in the little church at St. Višarje I somehow skied down the partly icy ski slope to the valley. It was nice! Now, if anyone has old Diamir bindings lying around at home that they don't need, let me know!

@sla Hello! Obviously the proverb still holds: "When the devil has young ones he has many, and a good end, all good" Safe travels and all the best in our common mountain kingdoms.

Nothing new to say about conditions towards Višarje. The place is so crowded that information probably spreads fresh from mouth to mouth. The pilgrimage path is besieged by touring skiers, followed by snowshoers, walkers only a sample. After morning consultation at the parking lot with one of the tourers, I left snowshoes in the car, as he confirmed my suspicion that the path is probably well packed and I won't have to be among postholers. The path is icy here and there, which can be bypassed, and quite good for walking. Especially if you're one of those who enjoy the creaking of snow underfoot, occasionally drowned out only by the "clatter of touring skiers". One could enjoy both on the way and at the top, where today's views were really the reward for the effort. On the return, I still used microspikes and over the steepest parts of the path and icy sections they weren't superfluous at all.

On Saturday my friend, almost constant companion on hills, and I decided to go to Holy Višarje, we both wanted that, started from Zajzera, path uphill through forest was dry for a while, then snowy, untrodden, towards top it was sinking under us, but we made it, day and view gorgeous, no hikers on this side, only some came from Žabnica, regards

I was at Višarje on March 8th with touring skis and admit, it's one of my most beautiful tours, nice in summer and winter. Really recommend.

This pilgrimage path is really made so that in first part you empty your soul, from Višarska planina onwards you fill it again (flowers, views,...), at top you are speechless. Especially if alone and no "living soul" anywhere, which is possible probably only while gondola rests. Snow is more or less gone, on path only a bit before planina, really just for show. Otherwise, as always up here – nice.

On the previous page Igor Z. wrote how to get to the starting point. There are signposts and markers. The path is well marked to the top of Sv. Višarje, so you can hardly miss it.

Yes, you really can't get lost here. The starting point is well described HERE (if blondes don't get lost... ) There are signposts along the road, markers too, although the pilgrimage path is very wide and doesn't even need them. Aha now we're smart about roads and signs , but you'd want a guide/co. I'd volunteer, but based on your photos, I doubt you'd go as slow as I walk Otherwise, recommend visiting on a weekday, much better for the soul... Best regards!
