Pilgrimage to St. Višarje

Today to Holy Višarje from Žabnica - via the pilgrimage path. Lots of snow still, but wet, snowshoes are welcome uphill as without them one slips a bit and walking is somewhat more strenuous, but doable. "Beauties" around in clouds so views could be nicer, otherwise very nice path we'll repeat in dry for sure!

The weather surprised us quite – not only cloudy, also light snowfall. Pilgrimage path through Višarski graben was of course well crowded, but ascent comfortable and pleasant. Ski slope nothing to boast about: upper half hard and slippery, lower (closed) half required quite some caution due to ice lumps from snowcats, snow cannon droplets freezing on goggles, and deep ditches over ski area. But Višarje still worth a visit.

Yesterday (Wednesday) on skis along the pilgrimage path to Višarje. At the start there was hardly any snow (grass, pebbles, here and there a branch), at about 1100 m a.s.l. it got better and with altitude turned into a real winter fairy tale. Track / ski trail is of course made to the top, where there's about 70 cm snow, of which some 30 cm fresh.
Huts and the little church at the top looked like a ghost town, everything closed as the cable car isn't running yet. But snow cannons were working full power, especially upper part of the slope seems almost ready for skiing.
Descent on completely empty ski resort was combination of enjoyment on 30cm powder on slope edges, crusty and packed snow in snow cannon area and lower down ride on few cm wet fresh snow on torn base. Last 500m scraped quite a bit, so I tried to find grassy areas mainly, some 300m before end took off skis.
Despite cloudiness another nice day!

yeah, it seems to me like j. and I are going one after the other. This has happened twice recently.
Well, at least it looks that way
On this path yesterday for the first time, of course with snowshoes. They've completely hooked me. Even just carrying them in hands I feel good
Lots of praise on these pages for this path, even more for the views. And yesterday it was the same, beautiful views all around, though trouble identifying peaks, of course some, not all.
Since joy was complete, a little extension towards Stone Hunter, which turned out too far for short day, well intention was good.
On the way also admiring a woodpecker that lingered on branches in nearby tree.
Back down our own way towards Višarje pasture.

Lončanka, beautiful pictures so much that they aroused the desire to go to the mountains now in winter. Where is the starting point for that ascent and how long did it take you time-wise since I come from Croatia so we can plan the time. Thanks in advance for the info.

Ločanka, you're phenomenal, so many hills and mountains you hike, I always follow your "posts" and enjoy the nice photos. What I like most is that you know the mountains around you and describe them nicely, so we who aren't familiar with some areas know which peak is revealed before our eyes in the photo. Keep it up. It's quite hard to choose photos for posting, there are so many nice ones.
Names of mountains around me are as important to me as the hike itself. If I don't figure something out at the top, I have to finish it at home, otherwise the hike isn't complete. Sometimes I ponder long what was there, but can't identify.
I also miss it in others' posts if there are no mountain names on photos, especially lesser known ones.
gigi6, there's always something to spark desire for a trip. If it was my photos, my goal achieved.

Up the gully, down the "piste". Snow ohoho Most of us on skis, fewer on snowshoes and quite a few "without below". Possible on foot too, just from where path first goes under chairlift to top, foot sinks deeper and need more effort. At 7.30 upper parking (pilgrimage path start) almost full, at 11.30 when returning traffic collapse from Žabnice to Trbiž, so many ski-hungry, so few parking spots. Žabnice - end Trbiž (motorway exit Austria) 35 min !!!

Today to Višarje via pilgrimage path. Ideal conditions for ascent and of course we weren't the only ones choosing this path. But no crowds. At top huts were packed full, we didn't stop. Down we skied straight on ski slope. Always super tour for start, and also later.
