Pilgrimage to St. Višarje

Last month I was at Višarje on the pilgrimage path from Žabnice (Camporosso), description found among outings. The path is wide, also steep, but not exposed. Since it is mostly in shade and smoothed by many hikers and touring skiers, I assume it's still icy (I walked safely with "shoe chains" from Veriga Lesce). I recommend this path, take crampons along. But I don't know what connection this tour has with years I know some 60-year-olds and older who can easily reach Višarje and many 20-year-olds who can't reach Šmarna gora. Go boldly and good luck!

Are there already masses in the church, if not, does anyone know when they start?

Holy masses on weekdays at 10, 11, and 12; on Sundays and holidays at 10, 11, 12 and at 15 in three languages SLO, IT, GER. Surely this holds for May since May is dedicated to Mother Mary. Best regards and good luck!

Masses start on 25 May, they told me yesterday, because I myself wanted to go to mass but there wasn't any, all closed, not even snow cleared to the church

SLOVENIAN MOUNTAINEERING CLUB SKALA every 1st May organizes a pilgrimage hike along chapels, so this year too, I read in the 2012 yearbook on their website, Slovenian mass at Sv. Višarje at 11.30. Gondola doesn't run, but local always open, checked previous years! If weather conditions somewhat ok you won't regret! Walk approx. 3h from cable car. See yearbook p.37, club.

Today at Holy Mass at Višarje - mass led by Triglav parish priest France Urbanija - despite cold in church, warm at my heart. Arrived in sunshine along road from Zajzera valley, last part still in snow, walk 3h along road from parking. This was really for the heart!

Something doesn't add up... on first picture Višarje without snow, but webcams show still snow. Misleading picture?

Nothing misleading, webcam shows snow on north side, 1st picture south side where it's already clear this time, logical. As for France, year and a half not "Triglav parish priest" anymore, though occasionally still.

Yes, that makes sense. At first glance, it seemed to me that the photo was taken from the cable car side - like a camera.

The order of photos is in reverse, my mistake. For France though, I think he deserves that name!

I completely agree with jana1966, as with such dedication and love for the mountains he deserves the name TRIGLAV PARISH PRIEST! 30 years ago it was meant for us that he married us and in recent years we renew our marriage (on the wedding anniversary) precisely by visiting Stone Hunter.

The priest now serving in Mojstrana is also Triglav one. Which one is more right?

Unsuspectingly, I triggered the problem - let each decide in their own way. And a nice mountain greeting.

Well, the Višarje priest also had a substitute yesterday, such that I was sorry I understand no Italian at all, as the young priest celebrated Mass with such energy that it was a pleasure to watch him, and I'm still curious what he said in the sermon. Otherwise, about the conditions there's nothing to write, the pilgrimage path is pleasant due to the shade, though views are offered only in the last part. Puddles along the path are full of water and refreshment is plentiful. Bulls from Višarska planina get more excited over snacks from the backpack than over views. We two enjoyed both the views and lounging in the grass and cloud gazing… and thus postponed the visit to Kamnitega for next time… And a wandering greeting!

These areas are beautiful in all seasons, so today with my colleague we went up from Zabnice and down the road to Zajzera valley and by road to Ovcje časi and back by bike path to Zabnice. Easy, marked path.

Actually, the wish was two days around Triglav, but we had to change our wishes according to the weather forecast. Staničev dom is sadly closing today ; around there is the nicest for me, now we have to wait again . . And where to go , yeah, of course , to Svete Višarje . The choice was perfect, sunny all day, but despite that it wasn't too hot for us, no wind, the path is actually like a narrow highway, lots of pilgrims, and at the top we were rewarded with nice views too. In the church there was just Mass, it was nicely decorated, probably there was also a wedding in it today. And Snežinkica (yes, she has that name and the first snowflakes have already fallen) joined us again . Well, that's all we could wish for. In the evening we returned with full batteries to Žabnica (Camporosso), from where we started, we spent a wonderful day .

After a long time I spent a nice and the first autumn day, female company gathered and chose Svete Višarje as the goal. Weather was favorable too, from Žabnica we headed to the top, where Mass was just starting, then enjoying nice sun and views, and accordion didn't miss either.
