Today I set off with @Janez's route description in my pocket to find the gates. They are really very hidden, since I didn't succeed in finding them. I reached all orientation points, also the last "solnica and then approx. 100 meters to the right", but in that direction the path after approx. 50 meters crossed an exposed gully filled with snow, the path ahead across it was not visible to me at all, nor logical. I tried to descend, but nothing... Then I went up 100 meters ... nothing. Altimeter showed 1448 m, but gates nowhere. So unfortunately I turned back. Regardless of not seeing the gates, above 1000 meters it was a nice sunny day. Lp

From the last salt lick you really go right, there the path was quite visible and it seems to me that you even go a bit uphill. Especially before the gates the trail more or less disappears and you keep a bit higher up. Only when you're about 10 m before the gates do you spot them in front of you. Now the snow really bothers as it has covered the poorly visible little path. LP

Thanks, to both. Now it's clear to me. That's just how it is, sometimes it's better to turn back.

For today's conditions I could say they were completely spring-like. Where there was snow last week, there's none today. And the last gully before the gates wasn't snowy either, so the rocky passage across it didn't cause me any problems. The gates are really magnificent, crossing the arch itself requires a sure step. Regards

Yesterday morning I drive into the Savinja valley more precisely to Rogovilec where I park and head back along the road to the bridge where the marked path to Raduha starts. Here direction signs are missing... but I knew where to start as I've driven here many times. A bit wet from tall grass and bushes since it rained the previous day. To the Račnik farm where then left up to the forest road and according to the description to the gates. I had no problems with the path and found the target without issues. A bit my own way, a bit on the pathlet. There are also many views from the path which I really liked. The gates are really huge and worth seeing. The path is very steep in some sections and crossings of these gullies so caution is not superfluous. Great excursion, I extended it to Matkov kot which is already described under another topic. GPS-Rogovilec-Račka Gates Regards! Tone

Beautiful things are usually modest but magnificent, but well hidden from the eyes. The second applies to Račka gates! Nice regards, Tone, we met up there above.

Today visit to this beauty. Notable snow cover appears above Račnik, the snow is fluffy, unconsolidated. The path, which even dry requires some care, is even harder in snow, the last gully before the gates especially so. Regards

Račka Gates I'll put the trip topic under the Račka Gates post, although today's path to them was just a crumb in a colorful mosaic. For us, with Janez, quite a lot happened... We meet in Mozirje in the morning and the path takes us first to the Račnik farm. No one home and we can't ask permission to park. Friendly little dog sniffs us a bit and allows passage across the yard. Anyway, we park the car next to a pile of wood and hope it's not in the way. At the start there are quite a few obstacles due to ice breakage. During ascent we clear (what we can) and in about 1.5 hours we're at the gates. Fresh wind blows strongly through the "open" gates and we quickly climb to the other side, which warms in the sun. Janez of course can't stay in his skin and offers me climbing the gate arch . I accept the offer, meanwhile silently hoping it won't be too much. Then at the end he tells me: "Only my son has joined me so far in climbing the arch ridge". At the start it's exposed but I had no special difficulties. At the highest point of the arch we rest and Janez takes binoculars... Of course observing barely visible paths on the western face of Raduha and already planning. When we descend from the arch down a steep slope back to the gates, suggestion comes: "Shall we explore further"? Of course I can't stay in my skin and confirm right away. We descend into the gully and look for the little visible path..... Here then Rock&roll begins... The path is nicely visible and followable in places then it disappears or splits. Searching sometimes gives us headaches and difficulty increases. Gullies we cross are polished and crumbly. For quite a while we stay at the same height (a bit below gate level). Janez occasionally shouts from front: "This, this...!!! " And me behind (hopefully not even worse... ). When we reach the rock tower blocking our way Janez curses: "Exposed ledge awaits us or mount wings". Here I stayed quiet and hoped for any solution. Janez looks for possible passage not so exposed but - ledge remains.... The ledge isn't worst.... need to climb down from this tower. Crumbly, exposed. When below I can't believe where we've climbed down. Also ahead more surprises and traps await us. "Path" completely lost... We descend rocky ridge (now purely our own). When finally we reach the marked one from Rogovilec past Račnik to Raduha we breathe a sigh of relief (at least me) . After six and a half hours at the farm. At the spring we wash sweat off and to the car. At the car tractor and master's work with wood. With fear we go to master and expect... But we were so friendly received, big thanks to Račnik family!!!! Very demanding and orientationally hard to follow. For adventurers with lots of knowledge, experience off-path. lp

On this photo the quite exposed ledge is marked in yellow. From the Račka Gates arch the path trace is nicely visible in that tower. Descent from the tower (and it goes on the other side, not visible) requires quite good nerves and experience.. lp

Picture 27 is really the winner. How good you are hope this picture wins this week. Probably the picture is too little processed, so it doesn't deserve a high rating. Lately on this forum it's like that, the more burned the better it is.

Račka vrata / ridge climbing The guys caught me this Wednesday on the "wrong foot…" From warm Kornati to snow in KSA. We agree on Račka vrata and then continue as conditions show. Stanko is punctual in the morning, so I'd set my watch by him, even though he comes from Ptuj end. In Mozirje we treat ourselves to coffee and then pick up Milan and Janez. At Račnik farm we park at 7:20. -2°C. Quickly pack and into the forest gully. At 8:45 the sun shines from behind the gate arch. We look around a bit, take pics and for warming up climb the arch. At the end of the arch, where it's a bit wider, first snack and plans ahead. Milan suggests easier variant (farmer Račnik advised us that too), but Janez fancies direct ridge . So we go for that variant (all first time). At the start of the ridge our poles in backpacks get stuck in dwarf pine/spruce branches right where least needed...This start of the ridge is not quite innocent… Later things align and we follow occasional cairns (make extra) and happily climb the ridge. Higher we go, more snow. On S side frozen and hard, on sunny soft. More caution needed, but no special problems. Climbing is nice and at some points already causes shouts of joy.. Rock in sunny spot is warm and warms frozen fingers. We reach summit at 12:40. Stanko even smokes on Mali Rt 2002m. When back, we snack and rest a bit. 13:05 descend marked to Arto and then our way down the ridge. More and more snow, cca. 25–30 cm. Terrain at times quite demanding and I sigh in relief when we reach marked path to Račnik. This path too is exposed in places!! At Račnik farm finish at 15:35. Sun no longer warms and getting cold. Host's invitation to warm house corner gladly accepted and we all thank him again for the kindness we always get here… best

Guys (or frogs?), obviously you enjoyed this nice tour and made us envious. Geppo, thanks for the report, I see snow awaits us there too.
