We two were at Pogačnik's hut on 30.8. and stayed overnight on 31. There was a big crowd, by my estimate 120 of us. Five students took care of everything, I have to praise them highly, everything ran smoothly, emergency beds were set up tip-top, service considering the crowd was simply excellent, and five menu choices.

On Sunday 21.9.08 I was on Razor. Markings have faded quite a bit but the path is well visible, just more caution needed in fog. Would warn about great crumbly rock just below the summit-helmet mandatory.
Pogačnik's hut will be open only until Saturday 27.9.08 -info from hostess Polona.

Nice regards.
Interested in conditions on Kriški podi-Razor. How much snow and what danger.
Planning to go tomorrow.
Is the path safe with crampons?

Above around 2300m, sometimes lower, expect up to 5cm snow, icy patches, but nice weather. Walking and moving on such thin snow cover with crampons is uncomfortable. Ice axe is a suitable aid for summer and winter. If you're going right to the top of Razor, then crampons are necessary too. For more details wait for response from someone who recently visited Trenta mountains, G.Triglavski or others.

On Saturday I was on RAZOR from Kriški podi. There was snow and wind, temperature below -10.
Otherwise nice tour, quite drifted snow so it sinks in. Anyway, yesterday we closed the hut at Kriški podi. Great atmosphere in the night hours.velik nasmeh

Warm autumn days are irrevocably behind us, but the just-passed experiences from the ascent to Razor from Trenta remain.

Hello!

Pretty please for some info on the passability of the path to Razor from Kriški Podi or from Vršič regarding snowfields. Are crampons and ice axe still needed?

Thanks for the help and lots of mountain joys to all!

Oh, what about the path over Kriška Stena?

Thanks again.

On Tuesday 14.7.2009 I was on Razor from Vršič. Ice axe is mandatory; I had to cross 8 snowfields, 3 of them very steep and dangerous. Path to the top is very dangerous because rocks are very crumbly and below summit very steep snowfield for which you need crampons but can also bypass it.

Regards.

Does anyone happen to know how the path from Pogačnikov Dom to Razor is?
Are there still snowfields or "winter gear" no longer needed?
Thanks for info!!!

The path over Kriška stena is OK. Below the wall there is one snowfield, which is even better for the ascent than the scree next to it... From Pogačnikov dom there are no problems except really crumbly rocks.

Vršič - Shelter under Špička - Zadnjica - Pogačnikov dom - Razor - Zadnjica is a plan for Saturday and Sunday, how many hours of walking for a fit hiker? Thanks.

but I have to correct those five students a bit, because from 24 to 25 August they had some private party, so I slept only 3 hours and still set off to Škrlatica the next day. After talking to one student about the evening before, that evening was complete silence, as befits huts, and I slept a good eight hours.eek

Mountain lovers and experts of the Julian Alps, please advise on the route schedule for visiting Razor, Stenar and Križ in two days. I would go to the mountains this Tuesday. Is there any new fallen snow on the path and if yes, does it increase the danger on this path? Thanks.

To Razor, mountaineers always go on that second day.

Yesterday I was on Razor. Snow was plenty in the shadows. With a friend we ascended from Zadnjica in 5.5 hours, so with an early start no problem also for descent, which is shorter.

Already on Saturday we went past Koča v Krnici over Kriška stena to Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih (sleeping), yesterday to Razor, early in the morning it was still quite snowy and partly icy, so we also skipped ascent to Prisojnik through II window and descended to Vršič and to Kranjska Gora! And some pics too...

That "tilted stone" is Utrujeni stolp, which leans on Planja.

I think we need to make use of this sunny week too.

Is there any snow on Razor? Is the path from Vrata nicely passable?
