Today from Rutarski gozd to the summit and with a short detour to Jehlc dol. Met only one hiker but also several autochthonous, zigzag-patterned locals on the ridge. Views rather poor, no snow on the path that would affect walking in any way.

Hello!

Soon planning a trip to Rodica and asking for advice on starting point choice. Which of these two has better road to it and currently least potholed macadam: Javorje (Bohinj side) or Rutarski gozd (Tolmin side)?

To Rutarski gozd is macadam though. But road at least as I remember in winter was totally fine.

Yesterday on Rodica. Road to parking below planina Suha is fine.
On the planina strong water had obviously flowed some time ago, quite a few destroyed sections.
Path to Rodica is ok.
No views. Peaks of South Bohinj Mountains constantly in clouds.
But nice anyway!

Road to starting point drivable no problem, first to Jehlc with ice axe and along ridge to marked path for Rodica. Summit a bit windy, otherwise quite warm. Another came after me. Descend and back along ridge to Jehlc. Today clearly visible

Rutarski gozd Rodica. Winter gear used as usual at 1700m. Stowed poles in the brush so the wind wouldn't blow them away. Holes in places. Had to climb out a few times. Snow otherwise fine for walking. Less crusty than last time to Zeleni vrh. Views as forecast. No tracks. Probably covered by new snow.(2.4.2025)

I thought conditions would be more normal, but above the bushes everything hard, only crampon tips gripped. Probably similar elsewhere. Windy in gusts, little time on top then quick descent.

Sunday sunny fairy tale. Base incredibly hard for late November. Planned circular, at the end descent (approx.) only initial descent part a bit my way. And since some daylight left, bit of playing in gullies above Suha.

Rodica 15.12.2025. The sky gifted a nice day. With wind in our hair. We went as usual from Rutarski gozd. Interesting comparison with Voglo. There we had softened snow. Here frozen snow all the way. We knew the conditions because people went the previous days. We needed crampons only from the sign to the top. On descent somewhat more time. We didn't need the ice axe at all. Because there is very little snow. The last part to the top quite windy and cold. We met only one hiker.

Today was a day for Rodica. Or not, depending on who. Reports during the drive reported 50 km/h westerly on Kredarica, at the turnoff for Nomenj it was all foggy, sky clouded over.

I parked at the end of the road that leads from Laški Rovt. There was no moisture in the air here, sky clear, up there in the direction of Suha pasture the howling of the wind could be heard..

Continuous snow cover started at Suha pasture, but in a nasty form: on the frozen crust you either slipped or it broke through. Not too deep, but those few hundred meters of gradually ascending plain took quite some energy from me. I avoided the crossing of the gully on the left side via a traverse path about fifty meters higher. Crampons here crisply gripped the snow, actually I could hardly wish for better conditions. In the little valley below Mala Rodica and further I kept somewhat to the right in shady spots so crampons gripped better, and there was no wind. To the summit I huffed up the northwest ridge. There too there was just the right hardness of snow for comfortable walking with points.

Up there it was windy, not too bad, but not too pleasant. Views to the west, north and east beautiful, Primorska side covered with clouds. As forecast.

I returned the same way. The path to Rodica from the south side is almost bare, if you go from the north, winter gear is quite necessary.

There isn't much snow, but gear is necessary.

On the right the approach ridge, below a small valley.

Rutarski Forest - Rodica. (23.03.2026) Although the forecast wasn't exactly promising, a nice morning developed. When we were descending, it started snowing lightly. And the landscape became fairy-tale beautiful. We didn't know the conditions. The view from Vogel a few days ago promised a lot of snow. For the first time, about three-quarters along the path, we didn't go the usual path as usual when there is less snow than now. Somewhere below Jeklec, people had walked in the previous days. Footprints were visible steeply uphill in the winter direction towards the signpost. We were really glad for the predecessors' footprints, because it wasn't safe to go along the path due to too much snow. At the signpost surprisingly calm. Somewhat windy on the path to the summit, but far from as windy as last time. The snow held nicely yesterday. It didn't sink in. Only towards the summit, where there was drifted powdery snow, snow clods formed. We descended via the ascent path. Also on descent the snow held nicely. Rodica is always different. Always beautiful. Especially in snow. We were the only hikers.
