I see that quite a few of us need info on the Kluže - Rombon tour. Is there any snow, are crampons needed? We'd go on Sunday morning.

Doesn't the upper picture say it all even though it's from the other side?

The logbook box is visible, but there is still some snow on the summit.

I don't know how accessible it is from Čukla, there's still quite a bit of snow on that scree field, I went from Kluže.

Just in case I'll take crampons and ice axe with me. I was up there on 1st May when it was all still under snow, then without crampons and ice axe it wasn't possible.

Has anyone been to Rombon recently? Is there still any snow, or do you need winter gear? Thanks for the reply.

We two went on Monday via the path from Kluže. The path is indeed long but wonderful. Meadows full of colorful flowers, rock formations as if made by the most precise sculptor. But there are still huge remains from WWI, which embitters all the beauty despite everything. Glad we did this tour, no desire to repeat (due to length and scorching sun)! No trace of snow on the path anymore!

On 29.4. I was at the summit. Path to Čukla 99% dry. Under west ridge of Čukla still some snow patches here and there. Snow starts around 1900 m on scree under west ridge of Rombon. North gully 'Naklo' icy till about 11 a.m., ideal for ice axe plunging and crampons. Summit south slope, mostly dry, has few snow patches that get mushy quickly after 11 a.m. and dangerous, as several-meter-deep holes hide underneath. Gotta be inventive to find rock path. At 2 spots have to cross them unfortunately, and there crampons and 2 ice axes really pay off.
