In our area the rain stopped in the morning hours, so I headed to nearby Sabotin. I parked the car on the Italian side in the village Štmaver and went along the asphalt military road to the first bend. There I turned onto the forest path that leads directly to the top. It was very humid on the way and despite just a 40-minute walk I had a soaked shirt. Of course the distant hills were covered with a misty layer. At the top there's a stamp but the ink pad is missing for quite some time. Someone should also take care of the logbook because today we signed on the last page. Colors aren't fully autumnal yet but the metamorphosis is already happening. On the way back I wasn't alone on the path........on the trail there was a young smooth snake curled up!!!! I spotted it in time so we gave each other space and each went our own way!

This weekend I went to Sabotin. Due to an ambiguous signpost in Solkan I turned to the southern path instead of the northern one and didn't see the tunnels. On the ridge from the ruined chapel to the top there was quite a strong bora wind blowing. I planned to descend then via the northern path but because of the approaching night I rather hurried down the Italian path, past the barracks and to the asphalt road. From this road a trail branches off which I followed. From this trail downwards another marked pathlet branches off again. I followed it over the rocks, but it was getting darker and darker. Then I saw a pathlet branching off and on it a border stone. I followed it to the Slovenian side and after a few tens of meters reached the Slovenian southern path and descended back to Solkan. So I was spared the hike from Italy back to Solkan.

You managed well ! There are quite a few paths and trails on Sabotin. If you had headed from the top towards the hut you would have found the path to the tunnels which are five minutes from the top. Next time! Could you see the Julian Alps? I also planned to go up today but then it didn't work out!

sabina.7: It was rather cloudy so not much was visible towards the Julian Alps.

Five-minute drive by car, I park and march towards Sabotin from the village Štmaver. On the way alone, I also went through caverns , on the top a few of us gathered . When I was leaving I also saw some filmmakers, don't know if there was some prominent person up there. Beautiful autumn landscape and from the top view of snowy Julian Alps. Today both Triglav and the Gulf of Trieste were visible.

Poljanc, were you on Sabotin? Did you run out of words?

Today I drove past Solkan towards Podsabotin and right after the first bends after the bridge I parked and headed up the steepest path to Sabotin. I reached St. Valentin and then walked along the ridge to the top and back. Down I went via the marked trail. Absolutely the nicest little hill in our area!

Today, as the last tour this year, we did a short trip to Sabotin via the steepest variant (as described by Sabina.7) also to make some space in stomachs for today's dinner. Nice clear day and temperature such that you sweat nicely.

Well this weekend I also went via the northern path and through the caverns. Really recommend a helmet because the ceiling is low and I would have hit my head soon without it. At the hut beer was of course welcome, I also checked out the museum then headed to the top. Nice view from the top this time the Julian Alps, the sea and all hills in between and around were visible.

How many times would you hit your head on the car roof when getting in, if you had a helmet you just wouldn't :-). I think we're a bit overdoing it with helmets.

Maybe if you just go through that cavern where the marked path goes it's really not necessary. For the others yes!

Today I went via west-south paths to Sabotin, made a nice loop and more than caverns (for which I never thought of a helmet myself ), now it's worth observing spring flowers .

For those few meters in the cavern, yeah, I hope no helmet is needed as it's quite stable. I was there a day before Sabina on Wednesday the 13th, and it was nice to see snow-covered Nanos :-).. I did the loop the other way :-) And I recommend seeing the little church if you just drive to the hut, through the cavern, to the top and down..

On Sunday the gang gathered and we headed to Sabotin along lesser-known paths. It was quite windy at the top, but it didn't blow us away.

Yesterday I went up to Sabotin again, since we have it practically in front of the house or almost. In autumn it's magnificent.
