Sabotin

In the valley it's real spring, on Sabotin due to high temperature streams have started gurgling. Walking on heavily slushy snow that starts a bit below St. Valentine's church (and today is Valentine's Day nasmeh) and on streams flowing down the hill was not very pleasant, but still.... nice afternoon hike on sunny and scenic Sabotin.

laik ...go, you'll like it... If you have time I recommend circular route - Solkan bridge - path above rail track (bike path to Plave), in between branch to northern path to Sabotin. At top then continue from guardhouse along ridge to church and down southern path to Sokana or to parking before Solkan bridge. Path is 3-3.5 hours long. Good luck and enjoy

Exactly that path ksena describes, we hiked in February two years ago. Unforgettably beautiful! Gotta go back to those parts!

Today on Sabotin in all its wild beauty. Start behind corridor, continue above corridor, up southern path, down behind corridor. On ridge icy bora was whistling, ahead in last rays glowing Matajur and Krn. On return beautiful views of sunset over Goriška plain and Števerjan. Sabotin always enchants me anew with its special energy.

Some snapshots from today's budding Sabotin. I headed up the southern classic, which surprisingly was almost uncrowded today. Down a bit around, since wandering on Sabotin is pure joy and only the approaching dusk drives me home.

After night and morning rain it cleared up and I jumped to Sabotin and met quite a few familiar faces there, so we chatted a bit and then each returned to the start on our own path. I went up the Briška path, start a bit muddy, then completely fine. Along the path I saw besides beautiful flowers also some non-venomous snakes exposing themselves to the warm sun to wake up. As always, Sabotin doesn't disappoint. nasmeh

In anticipation of the sun after these gloomy rainy days, some snapshots from Sabotin 30.12.2013, when the year was saying goodbye in an explosion of colors. They say these on Sabotin are particularly intense. Maybe due to mixing of mountain and sea air, or special energies flowing on this beautiful hill.
