On Tuesday, 21.1.14, after a longer period of fog, the sun finally showed. Before I reached Sabotin, it shone only through clouds, and at sunset conjured magical colors again that glowed till dark.

This time I returned to the starting point Za koridorjem via the Italian road, which I took to the overpass. After it I crossed Osimsko road, then via the narrow road behind the wire fence above the main road to the starting point. For some time the gate at the overpass right above parking has been open, thus easier access to southern Sabotin path or Italian road from Šentmavra.

The northern path to Sabotin is not accessible by the rules. The path along the Soča leading about half an hour is a construction site. The junction from the bridge is blocked, so a bit further on the road and around, then the road is officially closed to all traffic and especially to pedestrians and cyclists. From the road junction uphill there is of course no barrier. The hut keeper says they are building a bike path and people walk that side despite the signs. We did too, with a bad conscience, but anyway. Today there were no construction machines on the road, but the manholes are already done and everything is widened. We felt a bit guilty, as if the bans do not apply to us.zadrega
The mountain path without special features, no rain luckily. Peace Park nicely arranged, keeper friendly, no alder buckthorn though. Back on the southern path.

Since it's still warm, we might run into various reptiles on the way. I know we're all avid conservationists, but I think reading this excellent article by excellent Sabotin expert Borut Kumar will spare us many lumps in the throat: Reptiles of Sabotin.]]>
