Always welcome. Really I've met up there people from all corners not just Slovenia or Italy...yesterday there was a Czech, and a friendly family from Cerknica...It acts a bit like high mountains, because it's rocky and diverse. nasmeh

Sabotin is a hill worth visiting, they also call it Sabotin Peace Park. And so we decided to visit Sabotin from its southern side. We drive past Solkan, over the bridge under which our most beautiful river Soča flows, the road leading to Goriška Brda. After less than a kilometer there's a parking lot on the left where we park the vehicle and continue to the stairs, where the marker for Sabotin hill is, 609 meters high. From here to the ruins of St. Valentin church a steep path leads. Further from the church along the ridge to the top and to the refreshment hut and Sabotin hut a gentle path leads. Those wanting more adventure can continue past the hut and refreshment hut to Korada, about 3.30 hours walk away. We stopped at the refreshment hut. Literally in the Refreshment Hut Museum Collection we ate excellent jota, viewed the cavern where there was stuff to see, of course along the ridge path there are many info points where you learn about Sabotin's rich history. We returned along southern side of Sabotin to the start. Views were excellent, only our očak shyly hid in the clouds.

Yesterday evening our night hiking group headed to Sabotin.
We dressed really warmly, took hot drinks and lots of good mood with us, it was nice, views around were interesting even at night.

This afternoon I was on Sabotin and it didn't blow me away as expected. Wind didn't have such strength as yesterday. Lightly snowing, but almost no snow. At top pleasant surprise, meeting acquaintance and logbook was in the box. Unbelievable, usually we wrote names on loose sheets or unofficial notebooks.

Hill Sabotin has turbulent historical events behind it, demanding many victims among soldiers in WWI battles on its area. On the eve of the cultural holiday, we decided that a night hike to Sabotin was appropriate for this. We drove to Solkan and further to the parking lot, from where there is access to the southern side of Sabotin. To our great surprise, the sky over Solkan and Trnovo plateau cleared, so the full moon lit our ascent. To the church without major incidents. From the church to Sabotin top and back, a strong NE wind with gusts bringing snowflakes. Occasionally had to hold tree branches or rocks due to strong bora gusts so as not to be flipped to the Italian side. Despite wind issues, descent without problems.

Well, we got the snow shipment too. Today morning David and I went to Sabotin from Štmaver village. Lightly snowing and at top quite strong bora blowing. Saturday afternoon probably due to human error or negligence fire on central meadow below summit near Italian barracks. Extinguished till late evening. Today still smelled burnt. Shame, but could be worse. Luck in misfortune. Afternoon took dog to top, drove quite high as went long asphalt road from Brda.

Saturday, 25.02.2012: Circular tour - up the north side to the summit and down the south side back. Conditions completely different from those a few days ago, cold and windy at the starting point in the morning, then warm and sunny. Educational and varied tour with interesting views.

Yesterday quick trip to Sabotin, mainly to photograph one flower you encounter right on the path to the summit if you start up from Podsabotin. If anyone knows its name, please write. Where it burned, grass is already sprouting. nasmeh

mountain pasqueflower (Pulsatilla montana).

Mountain pasqueflowers are also very dear flowers to me, I didn't know they grow on Sabotin too. We admire them every year on Slivnica nasmeh.

The mountain has its own time, although every time is right for the mountain. (uf, what a thought!). Well, actually I wanted to say that Sabotin is now all in flowers, the little flowers are overtaking each other, I don't know names of some. Despite mugginess less hot than it can be in summer, anyway a hit. I chose a circular path, north past remains of Soča front which are nicely arranged, hut that was open with the museum, then past St. Valentine back to Solkan. Christening tour for new mountaineer nasmeh, hope not the last together.
Classic picture. The bridge has the largest stone arch in the world. It says. Soča has the most beautiful color.1

This year too we headed to the top of Sabotin in memory of Ivan who left us too early but left much good, what was bad we know dissolves and is forgiven with time.
Along the northern path, because it is more sheltered, but steeper.1
