Seems you rarely visit high mountains at this time. Otherwise I'm not showing off, just the question seemed very inappropriate. If you see Triglav and hike more in high mountains, it's clear right away what the conditions are.

That's why I suggested summer and winter gear, because end of October on Škrlatica the sun was really hot, snow just enough to cool the water, Triglav was white - very similar situation. That's it, maybe we meet up high there!

On Monday, 9.6.08, in the evening my friend and I started from Vrata towards the "four", weather idyllic after the shower. Snow starts about 200m below the bivouac (crampons not necessary-they come in handy at most in the morning, ice axe is useful). Tuesday morning continuation over some steep snowfields, ascent on snow instead of scree, then on the secured path to the top(dry). Down scree- and snow- express.
The alpine idyll was disturbed only by a mouse in the bivouac that practically doesn't let you sleep all night

This weekend my dear and I plan to do the following tour:
Day 1: Aljažev dom-(Bovški Gamsovec?)-Pogačnikov dom-Razor
Day 2: Pogačnikov dom-Škrlatica-Aljažev dom.
Not sure yet if in this order, or rather day 1 to Škrlatica and day 2 to Razor. Any suggestions? I heard the path from Aljažev dom to Škrlatica is quite overgrown and deserted. Do I have correct info?

For the path from Vrata I wouldn't say it's deserted as it's the most used path for ascent to Škrlatica. In the middle part there is some scrub but no excessive overgrowth. If you really want to go to Škrlatica it would be better to climb it first day, because after a day of Bovški Gamsovec and Razor one might lose enthusiasm for Škrlatica too.

I agree with igva. First day to Škrlatica, then to Pogačnikov dom. If you have time left or feel like it in the afternoon you can hop to Razor. Leave backpacks in the hut. Second day over Bovški Gamsovec to Vrata and not over Sovatna because boring. All depends on weather too!

thanks for info. agree. we thought a bit and will go as suggested-first to Škrlatica and then next day Bovški Gamsovec or Razor- a bit depending on weather or other factors (read tiredness).

on Saturday we started from Aljažev dom towards Škrlatica past bivouac IV. Up in four hours. Path is quite long, but well secured with cables and pegs where needed. then past Dolkova špica (tiring scree) to Pogačnikov dom. Took us 4 hours. Weather: sunny! Hut very pleasant; staff young and friendly. Goulash with polenta excellent. on Sunday morning we summited Razor too, then over Sovatna to valley (Pogačnikov dom - Aljažev dom 2:40). Nice and very scenic tour.

In Vrata I was a bit grumpy as I started only at 8 a.m., which is not usual. Only the upward view cheered me, as I was going to Škrlatica for the first time. The steep forest path leads me to the open Podovško world under the mighty Stenar. I continue to bivouac 4 and Škrlatica is getting closer. Despite the very foggy morning it shows clearly and spurs the already forced pace to the top. Before the first rocks I overcome the painful scree, where I meet some people who say it's sunny, no wind at the top. Climbing is pleasant and interesting to the top, aids in exemplary condition. Strong wind and some raindrops accompany me, gone after a few minutes. Unfortunately no view, but very nice anyway. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi, Thursday (21/8) and Friday (22/8) plan to go to Škrlatica (sleep in bivouac). Haven't been, wonder if smart to take self-belay harness? Thanks for reply, solid dry rock...

It all depends on how much you've hiked via ferratas. If you're used to walking on precipitous sections, fine; if not, protection is very welcome! The section is 45 minutes long, protected and exposed! Think and decide wisely! LP-Rok.

Yes, I've been to Škrlatica 7 times and have quite some experience with this mountain. It's an extraordinary beauty among mountains, yes of course there are some pegs, I always take them since you never know when they might come in handy. The summit itself is quite flat and spacious. Just take self-belaying gear.

Not long ago I climbed to the top and met a group of returning hikers. They with protection sets, I without. The meeting, despite their protection, was so cynical – like, where to clip in – that even I looked strangely, so Bogdan your proverb is spot on... Luck - Rok.

Škrlatica has very few cables, most aids on pegs, so nowhere to clip. Doesn't hurt though.
