Slovenian two-thousanders

My friend and I have set ourselves the goal to climb at least 10 two-thousanders this year (mainly choosing the easiest accesses), and I'm wondering, on which trails does the snow melt first according to your experiences?

No, if it's just about "desire to conquer 10 two-thousanders" it's possible with one slightly longer tour: Day 1: afternoon ascent to Kokrško sedlo and bivouac (you can also make a quick trip to Kalška gora and Kalški greben, in that case start in the morning) Day 2: Kočni, Grintovec, Dolgi hrbet, Štruca, Skuta, Rinke, Turska, Brana, bivouac at Kamniško sedlo Day 3: Planjava and descent via Kamniško sedlo... already 12-14 of them True, these are not the easiest approaches. Anyway, southern slopes lose snow first, paths usually easier there. On Krn for example with continued warm weather in about 3 weeks fully snow-free. Raduha no problem at all even with some snow. And most Karavanke (S slopes) soon passable without winter gear.

Easy ones: Viševnik, Debela peč, Stol, Kepa, Košuta ridge: Velik vrh / Veliko and Malo Kladivo / Toplar, Begunjščica, Vrtača, Storžič, Raduha, Ojstrica, Brana,...

He he, maybe I asked a bit confusedly... I know southern paths will be snow-free first, interested which peaks (with easy southern accesses) to look at first. When can we count on Stol and Peca? And Viševnik or Debela peč? And when on higher Planjava and Špik above Hude police? Roughly of course. Trobec, your idea a bit too wild for us . Otherwise there are quite a few such (easier) variants to connect multiple two-thousanders at once, but we decided not to approach it that way. More trips, one at a time

If I'm a bit blunt, I'll say that even the one who will or has already climbed all of them won't be able to claim with certainty that he was really on all of them In this regard, it's interesting to read this too: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/37465/

Kern is most consistent, as he uses prominence.

Well, that's why we have different interpretations. Even with geomorphological features some authors settle for relative peak height 20m, others 30m, some even 50m

Here is an extended list from MM, who also appropriated the peaks of the western Julian Alps across the border. I don't approve of this list, as besides the mentioned blunder it lists quite a few peaks not on any hiking map. http://www2.arnes.si/~mcuder/2000_ttn.htm

Blessed are those who find this interesting, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Well..."kingdom of heaven" rather belongs to those who aren't interested in anything...and believed blindly that the earth is flat, the center of the world, that one pair is enough to preserve the species, and talking snakes etc... Some just speak up just to speak up, even if they have nothing smart to say or it's nonsense that has nothing to do with the topic.

@lijaneja well, that extended list is really "interesting". Don't know where all those names even come from

Kern's lad interpreted this a few years ago a bit in his own way. He wanted to be consistent, but skipped quite a few hills marked on maps.

But "Kern's lad" put the best descriptions of pathless peaks so far online for free use.

Just because it's marked doesn't give legitimacy. Even in the official register of geographical names there are many question marks. Shame that app is no longer available, as you could select a few criteria yourself.

I have a stuffed folder of their (MM) descriptions from 2001 to 2007, when they switched to biking. On their website everything is nicely and systematically documented.

One can never reach all two-thousanders, because there are unlimited numbers of them, but quite a few peaks over 2000m can be hiked and reached. Easily could name three peaks around Šmarjetna glava above Dolič, but they don't have names.

For all passionate collectors of Slovenian and foreign peaks I recommend the Peakbagger app or related portal www.peakbagger.com Before using the app I wasn't really an avid peak bagger, now I am because of it. Besides good overview of (un)reached peaks it offers many interesting peak lists in Slovenia and abroad by various criteria, geographic locator is an excellent source of tips for trips to nearby peaks wherever you are. For additional info or help with use I'm gladly available (here or on ZS)! P.S. No misunderstanding - app is free and I'm just its enthusiastic user.
