According to Pečenko & Velkavrh & Markošek forecast, conditions there are getting worse hour by hour. But after rain (snow) the sun shines. Except when it doesn't.

not sure if I understand correctly. Are you heading up? If so please info on conditions as I'm planning for Saturday... And seems like maybe a bit too much new snow...

Given that some new snow has already fallen and more is expected tomorrow, we'll have to wait a bit longer for ascents to the highest Julian peaks. Better weather next week.

Yesterday we were on Špik. We took the route from Hotel Erika below Vršič through Kačji graben. The path through Kačji graben is dry. Snow starts a little below the tree line. We started very early so the snow was still quite firm. Lower down it sank, but on the snowy scree the crust held and walking was less strenuous. On the return the snow had softened to the top and we sank to our waists the whole way. Sinking snow and steep terrain took huge energy. Mandatory: crampons, ice axe, SUNGLASSES and SUN CREAM. The view was unforgettable. It was very warm.
Kačji graben is already snow-free1
On the scree there is still plenty of snow2

You're wrong there, Juš!
We were up last Saturday and saw quite a few ski tracks.

Has anyone been up there these days? Are there still lots of snow patches on the path?

Hi! From the Krnica direction (via Lipnica) there is no snow anymore... on the path through Kačji graben you need to cross a snow patch. LP

Yesterday on Špik from Krnica, as said, no snow anywhere, return through the graben where there is still some snow in the upper part. This can be bypassed, but walking on scree is extremely unpleasant, especially for ascent. The day was otherwise very nice, morning cloudless, towards noon some patchy clouds and perfect temperatures for hiking. Lp nasmehnasmeh

Today I went to Špik via Grunt. I started so early that the first rays caught me only at the saddle where the first cables start. At the top of Lipnica I spotted today's goal. At the summit I was alone, even the wheatear arrived late, barely caught a bite. She was quite picky: first I threw her bread, she ate it nicely, then I tried and threw her a slice of sausage, she ate that too, but after the piece of cracker bread was no longer good and she waited only for sausage and cheese nasmeh. Returning from the top I saw a couple of people ascending through Kačji graben, already almost right below Špik. In this heat grinding that scree is no good. I returned the same path I came. The lower I descended into the valley, the hotter it got, it burned, not just hot. I was really glad when I reached the shelter of the forest. Nice hot day in the mountains it was nasmeh

Yesterday we were on Špik from Krnica, returned through Kačji graben. Most of the time wind was blowing, upper part of the path in fog, so unfortunately no views.
