Ladko for the return has a nice descent to Pl. v Klinu, there 5 min to the Vršič road and another great descent to H. Erika. That path is much faster, otherwise you cross at least two tedious screes on foot and the Pišnica streambed before that.

This morning I parked at the parking lot below the 3rd hairpin of Vršič road and headed to the summit via Grunt past the Krnica hut. Winter gear is needed to cross the steep slope below Spik, where soon after the path via Kačji graben joins. Snow is frozen and fairly continuous, as there were few hikers on top recently. The last steep section to the summit is very crumbly, helmet mandatory due to falling rocks. If returning via Kačji graben, entrance to the gully is snowy and frozen. Descent without winter gear dangerous!! Wonderful sunny day with great views of surrounding peaks and nice company.

Spik was accessible today in conditions I'd call ideal. Trodden track follows summer route, made by few rare ascenders after last snowfall... Weather offered exceptional views to neighboring peaks, had to snap photos quickly before fingers froze. Approach took good three hours trudging, descent to Krnica path pure pleasure with some adrenaline lasting about an hour... Crampons stayed in backpack...

Hi, hill folk! Wondering if enough snow for ski descent, thanks.

And me, how are the jumps in Kačji graben?

Hello "takle mamo" and Flora1! The upper part is skiable almost from the top to the lower third. The track is made along the summer route, so I'm just guessing that due to little snow the gully below is rocky and dangerous.

Me too today on Spik (up and down via Kačji graben). Uphill no issues, downhill needs great care due to specific snow (like unprocessed, sinks deeply in spots, slides fast on path even no ice etc.), practically no walking without crampons to bottom though looks ok at first. Otherwise fine, well trodden... Regards!

Forecast was great, so today ascent to Spik, up and down via Kačji graben, higher at larches 1m snow, track made, path start with pegs more caution, put crampons on below "scree" and off only after difficult part on return, at walker sign. Super for first time, didn't think I'd hike like this in winter, overcame extra fear over years, now pulls to alpinism, but such tours like for now, calm 5 hours total

Thanks, there was very little snow higher up, it creaked under the crampons. Where to go on Sunday I have no clue, as Špik was the icing on the cake of the plans.

Špik is a beautiful mountain in summer, today I wanted to get to know it in its winter garb too. But yesterday's weather somewhat changed the plans. Up to 1700 m it goes nicely (with winter gear, of course). Thanks to the predecessors who broke the trail, as yesterday completely destroyed the previous work and there were no tracks left. So they cut it anew, sometimes quite steeply. In the traverse above the larches, sinking started; under the big boulder, nasty wind was blowing. Snow is powdery, about 10 cm of new powder, on a sliding base. The predecessors advanced slowly and sank a lot. Referendum decision around 2100 m: next time, no need to descend in the dark, there are also tricky spots below. The decision was greeted by the sun shining on the return, and the wind stopped too. The day was perfect, even without the summit. I'll come to see how to climb it in winter.

The mountain won't escape, very smart decision, as the path is demanding all the way to the bottom (descent in such conditions much harder than ascent), almost more caution is needed than up at the top... Nice anyway, regards!
