Today I was on Špik - up Gruntovnica, down Kačji graben. On the summit about 15 of us, also a group of young Czechs. Maybe more in the afternoon. Consequence of recent rains is powdery snow that starts before Lipnica. Especially annoying was the ridge Lipnica-Špik: safe steps snow-covered, no protection. But given the weather, snow will be gone in a day. Otherwise unique views today. For the upper part above the ridge, helmet mandatory, as stonefall risk from above is very high. Few had it today.

Surely no traveler to Kranjska Gora remains unimpressed by the rocky peaks slicing the sky blue in picturesque Gozd Martuljek, so were we last Sunday when deciding to climb Špik. So-called "Martuljek group" part of Julian Alps, most beautiful of listed peaks definitely Špik. Summit 2472 m dropping vertically into green valley almost unconquerable. Only partly true for this side, but has "weak" sides too, two trails to it as only peak in group. PK Ivanec members chose path through Kačji graben, very steep strenuous trail. Almost 1400 m elevation continuous uphill no flat parts. Almost no technical aids (rope pegs), no real fall danger into depth, ascent hardest by tiring scree upper part draining last strength atoms. Real climbing little in summit part, also stonefall danger making helmet mandatory equipment! Rewarded for effort with truly impressive panorama: Mangrt, Jalovec, Ponce, Mojstrovka, Prisank, Razor, Škrlatica... view to Italy and far across Karawanks to Austria... Descent although time shorter almost harder than ascent, especially lower part where wet rocks roots make even best boots ridiculous. For rest lunch among many huts chose Mihov's on road to Vršič, no mistake. Excellent cuisine backdrop drawing sighs, what more could one wish to happily full of impressions head home satisfied. Congrats on the ascent. Next time casually hop to Frdamane police just off the marked path through Kačji graben... Nice addition to the tour and no crowds unlike the Špik summit...

Might be that today on Špik someone wasted something for free.

I wonder when you'll take @primoza with the kid to Mrzla gora and if after that their rating too - possible?

I'm still protesting because they marked my sacred Ankogel as 'salonski'!

Mrzla gora is in the transversal under the extended variant, though it says it's not a mandatory point. If you're doing the transversal, how much have you already done, or did you start it this year? What did you do on Kanin when there's no stamp?

@primoza: there was a bit of joking Of course it's an easier three-thousander, already if we compare it to the neighboring Hochalmspitze. 'Salonski' would mean to me easily accessible in the sense that at least one approach is such that some transport takes you to a certain height, then more or less a walk with maybe some gully or easier scrambling. Piz Boe is definitely like that. Ankogel less than Piz Boe. Säuleck e.g. is 'ladies'' (in terms of technical ease) but by no means salonski as you still have to put in quite some effort to reach the top.

How long is it from the start of the trail over Kačji graben to the hut in the cirque?

It's been a long time since I hiked there, but I think it's no more than 1 hour.

Not much, but after Kačji nothing drags you anymore

I'm asking because I'm going up Špik via Grunt down via Kačji graben, thought from bridge to hut by bike, like in Tamar. Would leave bike at hut.

If I look at the map, best to return also via Grunt to hut and bike to bridge.
