The most southern slopes are almost bare, in gullies and ravines there is certainly more snow.

Given current conditions several paths are suitable, e.g. from Mač or Bašelj then past Kališče and on along the ridge.
I strongly advise against the path through Škarje and Žrelo in these conditions. Don't forget proper gear. Lp

From Povel the path is completely fine, just at the beginning need to watch steps because of leaves on the ground. Two also came over Žrelo and said no snow, path ok, just rocks crumbling in places (helmet).

We also went from Povel via Javornik to Storžič. It says it's easy, but it's quite steep... Weather was exceptional for this time and very warm, sunny all day - super! Worth taking the day off.

I was up there today too, we went from Jekarica. As seen on the pictures too, Storžič is still dry for now, but on Sunday it could be completely different.

Well, another one of those days... this time I started at Dom pod Storžičem and right away steeply into the path over Žrelo, which is dry and without features. On the other side of Žrelo sunshine and sea of fog from which only the very high ones peekednasmeh. At the top obligatory "sunbathing"mežikanje, back via Škarjev rob where a couple of patches of icy hard snow. Continued to Javorniški preval and back to start. Again a nice day.

Definitely congrats on the choice of goal and of course nice pics. These are probably the last ascents this year without snow, since it's coming today already...

I'm interested in conditions on the path to Storžič for tomorrow.

Today from Kališče it looked like about 15 cm snow there, which might be windblown.

Which path do you recommend for first time up?

For first time always choose dry conditions to study the path. And weather forecast these days is not the best, wind and related issues.
For tomorrow I recommend Posavsko hribovje, Mrzlica etc.

Best, Jure

Wait for Storžič until May, when the southern slopes will be snow-free. These days you can head to Kališče velik nasmeh

I was up there on Friday myself, crampons weren't necessary, ice axe mandatory though, conditions can change quickly and crampons may be needed too. In any case in winter conditions ice axe for Storžič is mandatory, since the slope isn't harmless. Snow was 15 to 35 cm on Friday.
I went from Kališče, Storžič is such a peak that you need to know it well even dry, otherwise without a track you can get into trouble fast.

I just got back from Storžič without crampons or ice axe. Just careful steps, and it works. Of course, individuals are differently cautious. Snow was wet - southern and sometimes it sank to my knees. I missed gaiters more, came back to the hut with soaked socks and shoe insides.

But I have lots of criticism against path markers, got lost on the way back from the hut towards Mače village where I left the car and ended up in Bašelj village. Yes, could try harder especially with mark frequency. No use having "beautiful", even kitschy, mountain signs on some path parts, in between old and quite rare. One big minus for PD Kranj from my side!

Southern snow can be even more dangerous for slipping, underneath remnants of hard from previous snowing and now soft. You can be careful but slip easily, so ice axe in winter conditions for Storžič is mandatory from my view.

No remnants of hard snow today, but fully agree with explanation. Today danger only in stepping into snow, under it smooth rock where you could slip. Often walked like chamois on all fours to avoid slip. By the way, scared over 10 chamois camped under summit. Nice sight.

Meanwhile, behind me climbed ca. 60-year-old man to top, behind him younger couple, another proof it wasn't so dangerous.

Proof that it was sunny and clear on Kališče all the way to Storžič.1
