Yes Rok, that's why they seemed so "familiar" to me, I use the same camera.

Path via Javornik pasture from Povelj: above the pasture in the lower part of the 'gully'(SW couloir)- completely destroyed by avalanches. Almost half of this section- between pasture and ridge = walking through mud and pathless terrain. A bit strenuous, but no danger. Technically undemanding path. Recommend to all who aren't thrilled by 'airiness' or exposure. In dry weather of course.

Heinz, I also went about a month ago through the "gully" to Storžič and it was very muddy. There was still some small snow then, probably better now, less mud?

I was recently on two training runs to Storžič from Povelj. First time I got an extremely bad time (1h 7 min), because the mud didn't suit me either. A couple days ago it was dry and it went much faster. Heinz: Can you reveal the secret where that fossil is along the path? Or by mail: bojan.ambrozic@hotmail.com

I think the 'secret' can be revealed here, as no one can carry away such a large rock. (Otherwise it would be gone long ago) Given your time Bojan, the fossil is 2-5 min below the summit, i.e. above the saddle or ridge. Directly on the path - you can even step on it. LP Heinz!

Heinz, is this the path that would be suitable for me? I mean start from Povelj then via Javornik pasture; can you send me some additional photo or info on the path course for easier orientation; thanks and lp

Pohodnica This is the path you can tackle despite your problems. Just don't go in wet conditions, because this year's avalanche brought quite some soil onto the trail in the middle section (approx 300m ascent). Tackle it happily.!(Storžič of course )

Yes, really, as serajko already answered you, this is the right one- easy. Start from Povelj, via Javornik. Full description is here on Hribi.net- (Povlje- Storžič (via Javornik))- easy marked path, walking time 3h15'. Just add that the time from Javornik pasture to summit is not 1h30', but close to 2 hours. From Povelj to Javornik is good one hour. That muddy part is by no means dangerous due to slipping or similar, if you fall by chance, you can only get dirty or scratched, well, that's why it's better to go in dry. You'll like it!

I'm interested in the path to Storžič, if you start from Dom pod Storžičem to Velika poljana. Further on the map there are two paths to the summit: one to Krničarjeva koča and to the top, the other is drawn higher bypassing that hut.Maybe someone can tell what the ascent to the summit is like on this variant? Thanks.

Babim! You reach Mala poljana via marked path from Dom pod Storžičem. Continue on steep track eastwards (ca 15min) and you're at Velika poljana. Here two options: first via Pasica (along west ridge of Storžič is locally quite exposed). If you follow the track east you'll reach (ca30min) Javorniška planina (Krničarjeva koča) and then up grassy gully to summit (see description above (Krničarjeva koča and Javorniška planina is one and the same)) lp

6.8.2009 my husband and I set off to Storžič for the first time and after good consideration and review of guidebooks, we started from Dom pod Storžičem to Mala and Velika Polana and there followed the sign for Storžič (no need to the hut on the pasture and further to Javornik plateau). After crossing the forest path we came across two signs: to Psica and easier path to Storžič. Of course we chose the latter, which led us to the gully and then to the top. The path through the gully was quite muddy and slippery and required caution against slipping. We returned via Škarjev rob, where the first half hour of descent requires carefulness. So we nailed our tour at Dom, we were quite proud of it, since we are no longer the youngest.

Nice and encouraging. It's important that you adapted the path to yourselves and enjoyed. Good luck further! Best, Andrej

Today my wife and I first headed to Storžič. We started from Dom pod Storžičem over Žrelo to the top and descended back to Dom pod Storžičem over Škarjev rob. This seemed to us an extremely nice circular tour, despite the top which the foggy cap wouldn't leave and we recommend it to all who have at least some fitness and of course not too much fear of precipitous walls. Let me mention that the whole path is well maintained and cleaned so hikers path under feet and GOOD LUCK!

I went via Povelj to Storžič. There's no such gully as Poveljski: 1350 m height difference on just 3.5 km path. Running is barely possible. Descent then via Psica and Velika Polana. This path is marked as very demanding, but I think it would be more correct if marked just as demanding. On the path only two wire ropes and one peg. Ascent 1 h 3 min, descent two and a half hours.

I was on Sunday on Storžič and barely crawled up. I thought to turn around at about 3/4 of the path and go back, but preferred to continue. It took a record 4 hours and 10 minutes just up and back approx. 3 hours. Started from 750 meters (Laško). But my weight is the problem: 115 kg/177 cm. Obviously this year I've already walked around 60 km (I keep a hiking diary), still going to Krn and reached 10 goals at heights around 1900-2250 meters.
