Today I went up from Mače past Kalisca.
To hut path has only two meters of ice left (horizontal), and it's hidden under leavesvelik nasmeh
Further the path is almost fully under snow except last 150m gain. Morning snow firmly frozen, scree and rocks help a lot. North side fully winter.

The north face is wintry. Yesterday from the Dom along the ridge above the avalanche and on the hard crust to 1250 m to the path. Deep tracks deeply frozen. A well-equipped mountaineer went to probe the gully. Range Rover.

Well, let me add my pot zadrega Today past Lovrenc along SW ridge to summit. Probably currently the only snow-free approach to Storžič. If Tone says two meters of ice below Kalisca jezik here to top you have to step on snow twice for two meters velik nasmeh ... unproblematic. Path for all lovers of steep trails jezik

lijaneja - does it give way anywhere? Probably unnecessary question whether crampons and ice axe are needed, or not?

janez, I went today late afternoon to the top, crampons stayed in backpack. Went up from Baselj though.

8.4.2017 - A circular [tour]: from Laški (Bašelj) along SW ridge directly to Storžič - Bašelj pass - Bašelj peak - M. Grintovec - Srednji vrh - Cjanovca and return via Hudičev boršt - Kališče to Bašelj.

No snow left on Storžič, on the path from Bašelj/Laško or Mač over Kališče. Some "patches" still around Srednji vrh but practically not worth mentioning. So the path is without special features.

From Laški along SW ridge to Storžič, return over Psica. As I didn't think to descend all the way to Velika Poljana, at a suitable spot I turned left off the path through the forest and steep grassy slopes to the shepherd hut on Javornik. There left onto the marked path, but left it after a minute. Thus diagonally through the forest arriving quite low on the morning ascent path, which I extended a bit past the church of St. Lovrenc.
Path normally passable, only at the start of descent a couple of frozen snow patches - but exposed on that section.
One path left, another right, I go straight upwards1

How's Storžič, conditions?

On Monday up from Mač via Kališče and down the hunting path then marked to Bašelj. No winter gear used, but those from Žrelo had it.
On approach little snow, avg around 2cm, no issues. Snow on path starts somehow after Bašelj pass.
But on west side on descent much more snow. Gaiters sensible. There were also crampon tracks. Due to the path itself more caution needed, especially lower where rocks end and ground is wet.

Stasa123, very cold today up there (Kredarica pm -12°C) and cold in coming days too (plus strong wind), so snow, even if little fallen, will freeze.

Hi. Has anyone gone in the last few days since it snowed on the SW path-from Povelj through the gully? Interested in conditions on the path-is it icy? Thanks.

Tomorrow I plan to go to Storžič; Up through Žrelo and return via Škarjev rob. Conditions have changed dramatically from Thursday to today: On Thursday I saw it completely snow-covered like in adnap's picture, today (Friday) snow has mostly gone and there's almost none, only small snow patches visible, can't wait for tomorrow cool

Still snow on the north side. Žrelo has never been completely snow-free in April. Don't trust south-side pictures of Storžič. eek
And my assessment isn't from the couch but from experience. mežikanje

Today I viewed the snowy north side of Storžič from Košuta ridge. Škarjev rob still quite under snow. Hike wisely and good luck.

Correction: Žrelo has some snow patches where ice axe essential, don't climb Žrelo without ice axe and helmet! Škarjev rob still very snowy and impassable now. Upper part very steep snowfield with wet snow where ice axe little help, cables deep under snow, so don't count on descent/ascent via Škarjev rob now. Better return to Dom pod Storžičem longer way over Bašeljski preval and Javorniško sedlo, descent through Žrelo not recommended per my assessment.

Yesterday (1.5.2017) through Žrelo up and towards Škarjev rob down then left down directly to avalanche victims monument. Through Žrelo needed crampons for cca 10m but imo still need crampons and ice axes. Škarjev rob completely different story... from top down half path or a little more pure winter conditions. For descent to avalanche victims already a little too little snow so climbing through bushes involved. Conditions very similar as one month ago only descent more demanding due to less snow...
