Just to the hut in Tamar was a bit too little walking yesterday, so we extended it to Crne Vode and from there a bit towards Kotovo Sedlo or to the end of the forest somehow, where you get an unobstructed view of all the beauty. It was a really interesting combination, which next time needs to be extended to the saddlenasmeh.

On the way to Tamar, only skiers overtook us, hardly any walkers. They hurried towards Kotovo Sedlo, many also to Ozebnika, for Jalovec I don't know. It was interesting to watch their paths.
At Crne Vode, we had to weave through piles of avalanche debris, which were really huge. Only rare footprints led to the gully, further into the gully there were none visible anymore. Really nice at this time, mysterious and a bit wild. Especially when it started pouring from the walls of Travnik, we hurried away from there a bit.

Yesterday they were also serving at the hut, on the way back there were already quite a few visitors, as most stay there. But it's worth going a bit furthernasmeh!

The path to Tamar always beautiful, but different every time. Yesterday it first looked like it would stay cloudy, but clarity soon overcame all obstacles. The last part of the path to Tamar still very wintery, with snow-covered spruces along it. The sun doesn't shine into this part yet at this time, but towards Planica the trees have already shed their snow cover.

Then also a visit to Jasna and its frozen lake.

Monday, January 24th. Through Tamar Valley to below the Šit ridge behind Kumljah and back. Despite not very promising weather, there were many walkers in Planica, parking lot (3.5 EUR/day) at the start of the footpath almost fully occupied. Not allowed on the marked path now, because there's a cross-country ski track there. So I went along the road and a few dozen meters further followed an unmarked but well-trodden path to the right. It ended about a hundred meters further - in the ski track. I went back a bit and found a narrow trail that brought me back to the road via the slope. About immediately returning to the car along the road because I missed the ice axe on my backpack, I won't say too loudly. But no ice axe in the car either. It was waiting at home.

The road to the hut in Tamar always drags for me. Lots of snow. Dry among the trees, in places large crystals formed on the surface. From the hut I followed the thoroughly trampled path towards Crne Vode. Don't know how far it's trodden, but I doubt to Sleme. At the dry streambed where the path turns slightly left, I went straight. There are quite a few ski tour tracks, even more ski traces. Actually, almost every slope in Tamar is ski toured these days. It was crusty, so I put on snowshoes. Went better, but more strenuous.

I hurried past Kumljah (right green shoulder in Travnik ridge, below entry to Tschad pillar, on the saddle also entry to Gams gullies). Ascent to it from the right (west) side. Walking with snowshoes became annoying due to steeper slope, so I only climbed to Šit ridge. To Kumljah only about 200 meters more. The slope was covered with indeterminate snow, but without ice axe I didn't want to try. No avalanches visible, but nothing guaranteed there. Fog rising rapidly from the valley reinforced my excuse. Returned along my track in the middle of the valley. On descent I spotted a lone skier coming from Kotovo Sedlo direction. Snow of all kinds (loose, crusty, hard..) gave him trouble, I think we descended side by side for a while. Me with snowshoes, him on skis. Skiing was so slow.

From hut in Tamar to car again along the road. Next time with skis. Parking machine worked perfectly.

Day wasn't anything special really, but I enjoyed it.

The aim of yesterday's trip was to go from the Tamar Hut further to the avalanche triggered by the rockfall on Jalovec wall. Yes, the avalanche just above the path junction towards Srednja Ponca was also clearly visible. During the ascent, there was some rustling a couple of times as small avalanches poured over the walls.
It was quite warm yesterday and accordingly the snow was softened. It happened several times that I had to pull my legs out of a hole more than a meter deep when the snow collapsed. If I were alone on the tour, I'd have trouble pulling out all my parts.

On the way back, a stop at the hut, where I must praise the really excellent coffee. No special crowds at the hut, a couple of runners, a couple of ski tourers. Some of them also higher on the path, but only from afar. No regular hikers beyond the hut except usnasmeh. Oh, and towards the Nadiza spring it was also necessary to step in and it was nice.
Very interesting trip, next time higher if all is wellnasmehnasmeh!

Mountain trail to Tamar closed

"We were informed from the Tamar Mountain Hut that the mountain trail to Tamar is closed. The trail is flooded and very dangerous. There is a lot of fallen trees on the trail, in addition the wind gusts are very strong."

In Christmas time the trail to Tamar is a really good choice. It fits the season perfectlynasmeh We've done it a couple of times and always returned satisfied. To make the trail not too short, we extended it to Črne vode, where there was real peace, although we met some couples of hikers on the way there. The sun didn't shine here either, at least not in our time.
First time I came across the memorial plaque of the deceased girls on Kotova špica from over 40 years ago. The view of the mountain from there is exceptionally beautiful!

On the return, admired the incredible play of sun and wind on Jalovec, so for a moment we thought of some fiery show.
On every trail, even if you repeat it countless times, always something new and interesting!! Christmas time is really beautifulnasmeh!

Dear Capraibex!
In the 80s they served us in the hut at the table. Today outside, through the window, at the table in front of the hut and some additional ideas they come up with. They say it's market-oriented, green sustainable and more. With all the frills they offer in the name of..., we are worth less and less.
Happy holidays.

Spring temperatures are also affecting the snow base in Tamar. Currently still idyllic winter, but in a week or two grass will probably be visible here and there. Unless there's a temp reversal. E.g. Southern slopes of Karavanke up to about 1500m+ are snow-free.

Otherwise, winter visit to this area never disappoints nasmeh

This time I unfortunately have to write criticism about PZS myself. With a colleague we did a two-day tour along the Ponca ridge this week, sleeping in Tamar Mountain Hut. Shortly after arrival we learned from the staff that the hut no longer falls under PZS (despite at least apparently very new, still shiny red sign at the entrance) and therefore claiming PZS discount is no longer possible. So the price for two beds in dorms and 2 dinners was 93 EUR. I last slept in the hut 3 years ago and since then absolutely nothing has changed (food portions, room appearance). So apparently the owners want to charge three times the price for the same quality.

Card payment in the hut of course not possible. This year I did quite a few mountain tours abroad and there it's arranged very differently everywhere. In the hut below Sweden's highest peak (about 90km from the nearest place) card is even the only possible payment method. Even in Romania in the Carpathian wilderness it was possible to pay by card, the hut even had WIFI. On the other side of the Ponca ridge in Zacchi hut of course also possible to pay by card. Not to mention the food and drink offer, which is much more extensive than in Tamar.

Finally, I'd like to mention the trail from Tamar to Srednja Ponca. I realize this trail is not very crowded and therefore narrow and overgrown in places. But no excuse for the poor condition of the markers on the trail.

A mountaineer thus gets absolutely nothing from PZS on this tour.
