Also in my opinion PZS is doing worse and worse in quite a few areas, but here criticism against PZS is actually not justified, except the "mountain hut" sign which they haven't removed yet. Well, maybe it's even some of their sign that just reminds of that "official" one from PZS. As for price and payment method that's (business) decision of the owner. Regarding paths...yeah, more and more of them in ever worse condition. Because maintenance relies on voluntary work of path markers, who are fewer and fewer and even those who are have less and less time. Anyway...reflection of the society we live in or the direction this society is going.

If the maintainer or the association of a marked mountain path for any reason cannot or does not want to maintain it, it passes into the domain of PZS. That's also the case with the path to Srednja Ponca.

OK, I didn't know that this path is "directly" under their jurisdiction.

“Anyway...reflection of the society we live in or the direction it's going.” And which direction should it go? To the one where some work voluntarily and for free, others cash in? I hope that time is over. Those who want always free polished paths can sign up as path markers or volunteers. There's arguably too much equipment and fixes on paths. It won't hurt if some summits remain just poorly marked and unprotected.

Yes...that's exactly one of the things I was thinking of. Path markers equip paths for free so that some local sheriffs can charge visitors for their work under the excuse of "environmental protection".

Trobec, no, at the entrance there's the same PZS sign as you can find at any hut. Also on the PZS website the hut is still listed as theirs. So obviously no one has updated that for more than two years. Drago, my post was by no means direct criticism of path markers, but of the umbrella organization that works very poorly in many areas. Given that Slovenes are considered a mountain people, obviously also in attracting new path markers.

On the PZS site it says that Vesna Rateče d.o.o. rents the hut. So probably the hut is not sold, but just rented out. Which means it's still owned by PZS. I don't know if it's OK that in such case discount can't be used. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask PZS . @dprapr, you say that those who want always free polished paths can sign up as path markers or volunteers. I don't know if you're entirely right. I pay PZS membership fee. Every year. I don't go to huts and my motto isn't discount, but respect for someone taking care of path maintenance. And PZS should do that with money from members. And therefore must find a way to ensure it. If there are no more path markers because they don't want to work voluntarily anymore, then another way must be found. That's why I think criticism of poor path maintenance is justified, and PZS is legally responsible for it.

Tamar Hut is by court decisions property of some agrarian community from Rateče. PZS granted them status of mountain post. This status is important because of all benefits the operator of so-called "mountain post" has. Several "mountain posts" have the same status. PZS does not control compliance with contracts with associations. That's why it's as it is. Paths around Tamar are maintained by PD Rateče and PD Borovnica. PZS also doesn't control path condition. PZS received from the state 250,000.00€ each year the year before last, last year and this year for mountain path maintenance. Individual associations also get funds from local communities. Everything written above is verifiable, so various excuses don't hold. One thing is "principled talk" and excuse-making, another are facts.

Julius, thanks for the explanation regarding hut ownership. But, if I understand correctly, such "mountain posts" should honor PZS discounts?

Of course! This is one of the conditions for obtaining the status of a mountain shelter. The other is the disregard of the contract for obtaining the status and no control by PZS.

Send the bill to PZS and demand the difference between what was paid and the price that applies to a hut classified among category II huts (that's how the Tamar hut is classified, listed as a mountain shelter, no fine print warning that something is different)

Mah, if only Tamar was the problem. Elsewhere they won't even serve you if you're alone, like it happened to me at 2 huts along the Vršiška road and elsewhere. In Slovenia everything is going to ruin. Starting from public transport. Let me confirm that in many places in the Balkans you can really pay by card at huts, but there are very few of them.

Not even at Erjavčeva hut can you use the discount. You can only reserve a bed via Booking.com, even if the hut is empty, but there you can't use the membership discount for accommodation!

If the membership discount cannot be used at Erjavčeva, consequently it cannot be used at Tičarjev dom either, let alone at the Koča pri izviru Soče. The PZS leadership owes more answers to the membership.

Those claims about Erjavčeva hut won't hold. We slept there this July. Reservation made directly via the hut's website. And the discount for members is applied. @bbugari1: erjavcevakoca.si

If it's like that now, I take note, but my experiences are like this: exactly five times in the last five years (up to 2024) my wife and I went to Erjavčeva for coffee (location is perfect), and every time at the counter casually asked about accommodation, even though we didn't intend to stay. And every time the same answer: bed can be obtained exclusively via booking.com app! Discount? Try via the app. Thanks and goodbye...

So. The reservation system is theirs, not from PZS. In the so-called private room, I would pay almost 50.00€ more per day just for accommodation than I paid for a hotel on the Adriatic (room, self-service breakfast, self-service dinner and drinks with dinner). And also. PZS pays for its reservation system, at the mentioned huts they do their own system. I think that the PZS leadership, if it felt any responsibility towards the membership, should resign immediately. https://erjavcevakoca.si/sobe-v-planinski-koci-erjavceva/

julius regarding the leadership's morals I agree. Because in all areas it's going in the same direction which is not even a little normal for all members, morally even less friendly. Sad.

I've been a PZS member since 1970 and for a couple of years I've been thinking about the sense of membership. I don't sleep in huts, don't need guides on tours, only socializing remains but that we can do on tours without announcements... PZS should just take care of the museum and go nodding to municipal usurers with the so-called calming of traffic and visits. That and wasting membership fees money is the only thing they do well.
